AIBU to apply for new jobs when on waiting list for operation?

I have just been told I have been put on the waiting list for an op I have waited for, for 25 years. Very relieved. It means I can return to work freelance on a project I am incredibly passionate about.

Thing is, I detest my temp gone perm job. It doesnt pay enough and I need to raise more than I am taking home to fund above mentioned project initially. Been at current job 18 months.

Recovery will mean between 2-6 weeks off work. If I apply for better paid jobs what do I say about op and sick leave?

Aibu to apply for new jobs?

I'd just tell them what you've put here - you're on a waiting list for an operation and you'll let them know ASAP when it will be. I think that's all you need to do.

I would just apply and not even say anything. It's not like it's planned for a specific date. For all you know it could be years until you have the op, especially with the NHS regularly cancelling 'routine' surgery.

Apply and don't say anything.

If you owned a business and were budgeting for headcount and paying for salaries, how would you feel about it?

Thanks netters. I do run a business, the project is one as such so I hear what you are saying @Lonelygirl1 I currently work for a large national company who can absorb my costs and loss and I would keep a similar company size in mind IF applying for other jobs. What would you do? Stick until sick leave over??

I am in an open plan office of nearly 60, it is sometimes fair to say close to a zoo of hell in there. I spent 20 years working from home or on the road, arggggggggggggh!

You could really do with finding out the potential companies policies on probation and absence beforehand (easier said, I know). I don’t imagine many would take kindly to a new person having up to six weeks off after a few weeks in a job. Did the hospital give you any indication of how long you could wait?

Sorry, 4 months waiting list. I need to wait it out and job hunt madly a week or so before I go in for op I think. Would be kind of nice to hand notice in on my return tbh!
