All weekend the damn thing was making i's annoying noise. I'm currently in the kitchen (with windows open) and it's still far too loud and annoying.

WIBU to "borrow" the toy from their garden while they're out?

Replace with a HUGE chew.

Ilovemypantry · 03/07/2018 17:53

I know how irritating this sort of noise can be. Our next door neighbour’s dog has one too but thankfully it’s not playing with it constantly.
I think if it is really getting to you, maybe have a word with your neighbour about it rather than just stealing the toy!

Singlebutmarried · 03/07/2018 18:02

Can’t believe it’s lasted longer than the weekend

The dog’s not trying hard enough!

ReadingRiot · 03/07/2018 18:07

That's what DH said, that his family pet's toys never lasted more than a few days. This is one of those tiny handbag dogs, would that make a difference? (I don't know dogs, can you tell? Grin) It obviously has the strength to squeak the thing!

Have a word with your neighbour to limit the dog's squeaky toy time - it would be mean to take his toy away it might be his favourite (well obviously it is if he's been squeaking it all weekend)

My last dog would have destroyed the squek in a toy after a couple of days, my current dog has never broken any of his - he's got a much softer mouth and is gentler (and will happily sit just squeaking a toy for the hell fun of it, whereas last dog saw squeak as something to be killed asap Grin)

Perhaps knock on the neighbours door and fake concern that the dog has swallowed a toy as all you can here is squeaking.

mamansnet · 03/07/2018 19:18

Puncture it while they're out?

ReadingRiot · 13/07/2018 17:16

Well, toy is still going strong but in an interesting turn of events the it has landed in the middle of our brown patch lawn.

I can't imagine how it got there, the dog is tiny and the fences are high. So, the ethical thing would be to throw it back..... Right?

My dogs have never been allowed squeaky toys. Fuck that for a laugh.

I second puncturing it while they are out.

UpstartCrow · 13/07/2018 18:11

Those squeakers are potentially dangerous. Imagine if the poor little dog got the squeaker out and it got stuck in his throat and made that squeaking noise every time they breathed!

Remove the squeaker and throw the toy back. You know its the right thing to do.

mamansnet · 13/07/2018 18:12

Take out the squeak and throw it back over!

Merryoldgoat · 13/07/2018 18:13

Is it like with that teething giraffe where you can break the squeak in a dishwasher?

agedknees · 13/07/2018 18:14

You’d hate me. I washed our dogs squeaky toy and the squeak came out. So I sewed it back in.

Dh not speaking to me now (squeaky toy only allowed in the house, not the garden).

Hushnownobodycares · 13/07/2018 18:35

Could be foxes getting in on the act. Or your fairy godmother Grin. Either way you can't look this gift horse in the mouth. Disembowel and lob it back if you're feeling generous. Bin it and deny all knowledge if you're not. And yes, I'm perfectly aware the second option is entirely Out Of Order but if I'd spent a boiling hot weekend listening to persistent plasticky squealing I might just be tipped far enough over the edge to do it.
