Hi everyone. Really looking for some help from anyone who may have better insight. I apologise I know this isn’t really an AIBU but I’m desperate and I always get good responses over here. I’m going to have to give the full story so I don’t dripfeed.

I have the most horrible neighbours, there’s been many an argument over the years but last year they installed high frequency sensors to protect their garden from the packs of foxes we get (we get none, they are neurotic). I politely knocked and explained that the frequency although high was not high enough as I could still here it, they obliged and moved it. One week later I could hear it again, I knocked we had a bit of a disagreement but they once again agreed to change it, all was fine the rest of the summer and for the following year, until a couple of weeks ago. Out of nowhere I heard it and ever since then it’s all I hear, it’s so painful I can’t go into the garden. I can hear it with the windows open or with the garden door so I’m trying to keep them closed. I have two small children who can also hear it, one is an infant and I’m so worried about the effect it could have on their hearing. I have asked politely again and they don’t want to know, were rude and aggressive. Everything sets them off, wind, squirrels, literally everything. I’ve spoken to environmental health who have said that once I issue them with a noise diary of 21days worth they will send them a letter giving them 30days to rectify and then will get further involved. I can’t wait that long, I can’t live like this anymore and I’m at my wits end. Please does anyone have any other ideas? Does anyone know if although painful that this atleast won’t have any long lasting side effects on myself and my children? It’s measuring my husband said it’s 17000hz, I have made an appointment with our gp tomorrow. Thanks!

Honestly, I’d break it.

Unless I could disable it, in which case I’d do that.

Oh god that would drive me nuts. I feel for you! I can't offer any solution other than what you're already doing but I really sympathize

Have you told them you are going to report them? If not tell them in an apologetic way that it's really having effect on you and your kids health and you're going to have to report it, that may help focus their minds.

Back date your diary to the day noise started again, don't go earlier as it may be a new one and they will have receipt to prove it.
Hand deliver diary, get a receipt, make sure you tell them verbally and in writing how bad it is and keep chasing them up every couple of days. He who shouts loudest.....

Hopefully there is a nearby park to enjoy in the meantime.

While at park don't forget to leave a window open and opera playing at volume

Its worth a fine. Wirecutters

Ihatemyneighbours1234 · 03/07/2018 08:25

I wouldn’t be worried about the fine tbh it would be worth it but I’m worried they may do something like press charges. I have been thinking of ways to seek revenge if anyone has any ideas?! Grin

Don't begin a neighbours at war scenario. they sound like loons.

Have they checked the batteries aren't dying? I have 2 in my garden and as the batteries go, they start to make random screechy sounds and can be heard by children who can't normally hear them.

Try that, first. It's very unusual for adults to be able to hear these, normal for children up to about 14 (so you position them accordingly, obviously).
