Sum up, woman sunbathing in park. Wedding party come along to have photos.

Ask her to move multiple times and she refused for the first 10 minutes.

She was there first.

This is a great stand-off. Woman refuses to reverse out of one-way tunnel because she has right of way.

The article also says that the elderly man didn't feel confident to reverse?!
If he isn't confident in his driving, he shouldn't drive. Reversing is a part of it and actually pretty easy. Elderly drivers should be tested every two years for their ability to drive. I know someone who was driving while suffering from Alzheimers while frequently choosing not to take the medication because they didn't feel ill. When I was told, I was horrified.

Clandestino · 03/07/2018 04:15

And back to the OP, the woman was right. They should have booked the venue.

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 03/07/2018 05:02

Sounds like they may have been rude so she didn't see why she should have moved? Just to add a different perspective though...I got married abroad...massive very empty beach and they swept and sectioned off a small part of it directly in front of the villa. People thought it was fine to walk right over this section (there were ways round it) right up to the ceremony and then stand directly behind us during the vows so they were very obviously in the pictures etc. When the organisers asked them to move from the beach as that bit was private and owned by the villa they got into the sea right in front of us (behind the ceremony area) for a better look. The photographer was great and took pics at funny angles so didn't get the gawping semi naked people in, and so it didn't bother me but I was quite surprised at how interested they were at a strangers wedding and how they didn't care that they would forever be in everyone's pictures in their swimwear!

Pengggwn · 03/07/2018 05:21

I don't see why she should have moved if they were demanding about it. I would have moved if asked politely.

AjasLipstick · 03/07/2018 05:48

This interests me because we live next door to a very beautiful spot...in a small, historical town in Oz. The place is a very old public building which is next to a beautiful creek and wooded area plus an open hilly area.

It's THE spot for all the children to play in. It's owned by the council and the National Trust and it's open and free to the public all year round.

It is also a popular spot for wedding photos as there's a venue nearby-ish. Bridal parties walk down our picturesque high street and have photos done and the National Trust volunteers provide cake and tea at a cost. So they book in.

BUT....when this is going on, they put a sign out saying "Creek closed"

And they can't do that. In summer it's every weekend...there's no law or rules in place to allow this...they can't actually close the creek because it's public land.

So I let my children down anyway. They can't bloody take over the area...they're never even FROM here but they think they own it because it's their "Special day!"

I counsel my kids not to get near the photos or in the way and that's that!

I drive down several miles of a single track road a few times a week and in my experience age has nothing to do with it. I have had people of all ages refuse to back into passing places a few meters behind them many times. Often they are tourists but it really makes no difference on a single track road where your steering wheel is. I once offered to back up a car for one woman because I would have had to back around a corner with no visibility a long way to get to a passing spot. In the end she did it herself but it was painfully slow and by then there were several cars behind me.

DryHeave · 03/07/2018 06:27

At least she was allowed to be there. Testier Gardens has a covenant stating no admittance to under 18s, so the children of the wedding party technically shouldn’t have been there.

mydogishot · 03/07/2018 06:27

I does all depend on how you are asked. If they just started nudging and getting closer but didn't ask, they can fuck off.

I would've whipped my top off and winked at the photographer but then I'm brazen (and very fat)

TheCheeseStandsAlone · 03/07/2018 06:35

The video!!! The woman talking is clearly offended that someone else is in the park at all Grin

They just made themselves look bad, not her.

SouthWestmom · 03/07/2018 06:51

In the car video it's clear the bloke is way past the middle point - there's right of way and being a dick.

Wibblywobblyfoo · 03/07/2018 06:53

The tunnel.one...if the man was 2/3 through, presumably he was there and driving before she arrived. So he had the right of way.
If they arrived together then the woman would have had right of way but if she wasn't there when he started then she was in the wrong.
Knowing the road tho, its not straight and there is a small bend that makea it quite difficult as you can't see is anyone is approaching

kaytee87 · 03/07/2018 06:54

I would have moved but she didn't have to. A decent photographer would airbrush her out of the picture.

MidniteScribbler · 03/07/2018 06:59

You were having a picnic with 50 dogs?

Breed club fun day out. Our record so far is 78.

Lethaldrizzle · 03/07/2018 07:05

Oh come on she had the whole park to lie in

Pengggwn · 03/07/2018 07:08

Lethaldrizzle

Yes, including the public spot she had already settled in. What gives anyone the right to expect her to move because they want to take a photograph?

The80sweregreat · 03/07/2018 07:16

I would have just moved on personally , but then I hate confrontation and would have felt awkward.

Some people like to make a huge point about things though, so guessing the more ' bloody minded' you are the less likely you are to just do whats wanted, especially if she wasnt asked nicely or there had been a row about it.

SoupDragon · 03/07/2018 07:22

Oh come on she had the whole park to lie in

And they had the whole park to take photos in.

OliviaStabler · 03/07/2018 07:34

If the tone of the people on the video are any indication, then I suspect she didn't move as they were rude to her.

morningconstitutional2017 · 03/07/2018 07:40

It is a public space and no-one could reasonably expect to have the place to themselves for whatever reason. Totally unreasonable.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 03/07/2018 07:52

I don't know what exactly what happened there, but sometimes you refuse something and then the other party gets all entitled and you dig in and just don't want to let them have their ways because they have been rude to you.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 03/07/2018 07:55

And then you feel embarrassed, so you dig in and they get defensive, so they get arsey.

Slartybartfast · 03/07/2018 08:11

actually why should she have moved. if they were that keen on pictures for the wedding they should have hired somewhere.
kudos to her for standing her ground.

the video about the couple in a stand off, the way the men were around the woman! They managed to get the man to reverse in the end, Was it worth it!
i have seen people refuse to reverse, but not for 40 minutes. Extreme!

ShatnersWig · 03/07/2018 08:22

That woman is my hero of the week.

Pengggwn · 03/07/2018 08:29

The tunnel woman was probably wrong in my view (although she had right of way, she should have given way to someone already in the tunnel) but the way those people were all crowding round her was disgusting.
