School uniform policy

Aibu to think it’s ridiculous that my daughters school is insisting that they wear opaque tights in this heat?

I understand I have signed a home/school agreement, but when she started last September I presumed she could wear ankle socks in the summer.

This is not an academy, it’s the local mixed sex comprehensive school. No air conditioning. No explanations other than it’s the uniform.

I’m worried about thrush plus it’s very uncomfortable for her.

@Trish10000t

That sounds like a very well-disciplined school. I imagine the pupils get used to wearing their uniform, but even so, there's no harm in being a little uncomfortable sometimes. It teaches discipline.

@JassyRadlett

ask the school why they are going against th Public Health Engand advice for a Level 3 heatwave, and to see a copy of their risk assessment.

Why do I imagine you doing this in a really nasally voice?

My DS is in reception so I'm new to all these crazy school uniform rules. Is it normal for schools to expect pupils to wear their blazers during lessons and at all other times? Must 16 year olds really ask permission to not get too hot?

I'm envisioning some very stinky classrooms now. Surely wearing a coat while you're trying to work isn't that comfortable regardless of weather? And you wouldn't feel the benefit.

IndigoSpritz · 11/07/2018 18:37

I don't know how school heads can be arsed with all these barmy rules in the first place. And whoever said being a little uncomfortable can teach discipline. What ??

Topseyt · 11/07/2018 18:42

Being uncomfortable doesn't teach discipline. What utter bollocks! It breeds resentment instead.

Wellthisunexpected · 11/07/2018 18:43

We had this rule in school. I got recurrent thrush. I got round it by wearing hold ups. One teacher noticed and mentioned it. I suggested he stopped looking up my skirt (which wasn't that short). It was never mentioned again

Tights don't make that much difference. I've not stopped wearing tights just cause it's hot. And I'm not some stickler for ettiquette or anything like that...I just don't think bare legs looks terrible, and the chub rub is murder. I'm sure your daughter will be absolutely fine...even in her tights...

There's always the option of wearing trousers like the boys have to Wink

No idea. Weird baseless prejudices, or an overactive imagination?

Only you really know the answer. Might be revealing. Grin
