Aibu to be cross at his teacher?

nettynoodle · 02/07/2018 18:34

My son is 9. He had decided he wants to grow his hair into a ponytail like his dad use to have.
Who am I to argue as long as he washes and brushes it. That’s the deal.
So it’s at an annoying length right now. Just sweeping across one eye in the fringe bit.
So my aibu is.... today his teacher put a hair clip in it. Not because he asked just because it annoys her being in his face.
Now I’ve tried to tie it up but it looks daft having just the fringe in a top knot with the back so long (but not long enough to tie up)
Now I think she should have spoken to me and said noodles childs hair is getting in his face can you please see if you can find a way to sort this out. Rather than taking matters into her own hands.
So am I aibu to be annoyed?

The teacher probably thought that you didn’t have the nous to do something about it as you’ve been sending him in with it in his face.

Notevilstepmother · 02/07/2018 19:06

Teacher helps child get their hair out of their eyes. Won’t someone think of the children.

81Byerley · 02/07/2018 19:34

Why on earth would you be cross? It's not like the teacher assaulted him!

Kool4katz · 02/07/2018 19:38

It's unheard of around here for a school to police children's hairstyles, even those with a more strict uniform policy. Don't think it makes any difference to their ability to learn. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Fairenuff · 02/07/2018 19:43

I've done the exact same thing with girls. They can't read or write or learn if they can't see. Clip the hair away from the face whilst it grows.
How hard is that to understand?

For boys, a plain bandana might be appreciated. As long as it does the job, it's acceptable imo.

Think about your child's education OP rather than focus on their hairstyle.

SuburbanRhonda · 02/07/2018 21:41

Don't think it makes any difference to their ability to learn.

If they can’t see the board, the teacher or the work in front of their face, I rather suspect it does make a difference.

Hmm

What a waste of emotional energy

This is like the opposite of policing. It’s facilitating the child doing school whilst also keeping his hair as he wants it.

Children with hair in their faces can’t do school properly. And in this heat, he was probs getting all hot and bothered too.

The teacher put a clip in his hair, OMG call 999.
FFS get a grip, god help you if you have any real problems!!

Coolaschmoola · 02/07/2018 21:50

Why are you cross with the teacher? YOU should have ensured it was out of his line of sight, you didn't bother ensuring your child could see properly for his education, so the teacher did. Unencumbered lines of sight are important.

If you had dealt with it this wouldn't be an issue.

Oh and YABU 100%

whathaveiforgottentoday · 02/07/2018 22:26

Once he gets to secondary school he will have to tie it back for safety in many lessons.

This sounds like nonsense. I have hair that falls in front of my face constantly if I don't have it held back. It's a little annoying but I can still see through it, it wouldn't stop me learning in a classroom.

SuburbanRhonda · 02/07/2018 22:57

But you’re an adult, and presumably that scenario would never arise, so how you would manage hair in your face has no relevance to the OP’s 9-year-old.

BoomBoomsCousin · 02/07/2018 23:09

Suburban being an adult doesn't make my eyesight superior to a child's (probably the opposite!). If he couldn't see that would be an issue, but the post I was responding to seemed to assume that hair falling front of your face means an inability to see by default. I'm just pointing out that isn't the case and there's no sound basis for the poster's assertion that the OP failed to ensure he could see.

TheBigFatMermaid · 02/07/2018 23:19

There really is much more to be angry about in the world than this!

00100001 · 03/07/2018 07:48

MAye his hair was flopping about his face and he asked the teacher for help and she suggested a clip and he said "yes please?"

LadyPenelope68 · 03/07/2018 07:52

Not sure what your issue is really. It was probably a case of he’s constantly messing g with it or pushing it out if his eyes so not focussing in his work etc, etc. I’d have told him to clip it/the it back if it was one of my students. Perhaps he couldn’t clip it himself so she did it for him, I really don’t see your problem. I’d do the same if it was a girl and they were flicking hair about/constantly pushing it out of their eyes.

MoonsAndJunes · 03/07/2018 08:26

Your son is growing his hair long, will wear it in a ponytail with a bobble like his Dad used to and you are annoyed because he was given a clip (or had it clipped for him?) by a teacher so that he could see his work properly?
I don't understand your logic.
YABU

Alittlepotofrosie · 03/07/2018 08:29

Get a fucking life. Dont you think the teacher has better things to do than listen to you whinge on about a hairclip?

MoonsAndJunes · 03/07/2018 08:29

I predict a drip....

Yes!! We'll find out that scissors were involved Grin Grin

MoonsAndJunes · 03/07/2018 08:30
