..to take Alli weight loss pills when myBMI is under 28 ?

I hate my body so much that I have actually thrown up with disgust. It is not so much that I'm overweight - I have friends who are overweight / obese, but are still very pretty or look nice / attractive. I however look horrible. I have a tiny head and legs and a massive wobbly belly. My face is also a bit strange, and on a thin body it looks 'quirky' which I can cope with, but on my current body I just look down right ugly.

I can't cope anymore. I've tried every diet but always fuck it up.

I've just ordered 'Alli' pulls off the internet (reputable site - think 'boots'). But these pills are only for people with a BMI over 28/30. So I lied (my BMI is probably about 24-26, although I don't know, maybe a bit less)

I have tried all other diet pills to no avail but heard these ones actually do work!!

Have you ever taken Alli?
Does it work?
Have you taken it when your BMI was under 28? Was it ok?

Not sure if it's dangerous and if it is, why? There is no info on web about why you shouldn't take it if BMI under 28

Thanks for any help/advice/stories about Alli

Well, they'll give you orange, explosive diaorrhea if you want that?

EveningHare · 02/07/2018 17:34

24 is on the lower end of healthy

if you are throwing up to lose weight, you need to go and see your gp and get some help

re your tummy? have you tried exercising to tone it ?

ButterChickenwithyellowrice · 02/07/2018 17:35

Unless you have a crap fat filled diet they will not make any difference.

TeaAndAChocolate · 02/07/2018 17:41

I run about 3 times a week and am on a diet, so will be losing weight slowly, but think these pills might give me a boost.

I could do more core exercises, but with the amount of fat, I doubt it would make much difference, but I will try

They won't do anything other than give you the shits.

You have to be eating a certain % of fat for them to have any effect and if you're already on a diet they won't be able to work. They will just irritate your stomach.

Your self image is nothing to do with your weight.

PurpleDaisies · 02/07/2018 17:46

If you’re throwing up because you want to lose weight, you need to make an appointment with your gp to talk about this. You’re starting (or have) an eating disorder.

Pinkstars2501 · 02/07/2018 17:48

My friend took them when she was feeling desperate. She literally shit through all the layers of her clothing when she trusted too much that a fart was just wind.... Thank god she was at home. You know when you get a curry and the top of it is oily? Yeh, that’s the kind of shits they give you. So crack on, but be very prepared to be close to a toilet at all times.

Eminybob · 02/07/2018 17:49

It doesn’t sound to me like your weight is your problem, and losing some won’t make you feel any better.
I think you should get to the gp and tell them how you have been feeling Flowers

spidey66 · 02/07/2018 17:49

Healthy BMI is 20-25 so24 is upper end of healthy, not lower.

HildaZelda · 02/07/2018 17:51

Any of those weight loss pills are basically just laxatives. All that will happen is you'll end up with diarrhoea and horrendous cramping.

HelenaDove · 02/07/2018 17:51

Please do not take them. From what ive heard they have horrible side effects and i can see that pps have heard the same.

You do NOT need them. Thanks

TeaAndAChocolate · 02/07/2018 17:52

Well I think my BMI is probably 25 to 26 then

MyBreadIsEggy · 02/07/2018 17:54

A friend of mine took them a few years ago.
Literally any fat in your diet runs out of your arse like olive oil Envy (definitely not envy)
I see them as a dangerous placebo - ie “you eat fat, fat runs out of your arse”, so you automatically eat a healthier diet to avoid the horrible shits. So why need the threat of greasy shit to make you eat more healthily? In a way, it comes under the laxative abuse umbrella Confused

TeaAndAChocolate · 02/07/2018 17:55

I am just a horrible shape - seriously horrible middle - I've been asked about 4 time in the last year if I'm pregnant - only by showing exactly how wobbly, rather than firm, my bump is has satisfied the askers :(

Tea the best way to combat that if it really does bother you is exercise Smile It won’t happen over night, as fat in the tummy area is notoriously stubborn to shift, but it will shift!!
Exercise will no doubt improve your feelings about your body too. Get some endorphins pumping and it’s a natural high Smile

missymayhemsmum · 02/07/2018 18:04

You don't need this, OP, your weight is not your problem, your self-image and how you feel about your body is your problem. Try to stop valuing yourself by what you look like, and instead work on your health. Yoga or pilates will help you tone up and maybe help you get some perspective. Look after your skin and hair and teeth (weight loss pills and throwing up will definitely not help with this) as even people with a bit of a belly and an odd face can look lovely if you look healthy and confident and smile at people, whereas an unhealthy miserable person will often look downright ugly, no matter how slim their body or regular their features.

HarryLovesDraco · 02/07/2018 18:07

A big belly isn't horrible
You need to reframe your self image.

FlyingDandelionSeed · 02/07/2018 18:08

You have to be eating a certain % of fat for them to have any effect and if you're already on a diet they won't be able to work. They will just irritate your stomach.

This is NOT true. They work by blocking a small percentage of the fat you eat (which comes out in your poo). You HAVE to be dieting (low fat) when you use them or the amount of fat coming out will be high - which is what leads to the diorhea/stomach problems etc.

You should only use these if you are on a low fat diet.

FrogFairy · 02/07/2018 18:09

If you eat a low fat diet, they might constipate you.
If you cheat you will have bright orange oil leaking out of your areshole.
I thought they gave me a strange body odour too.

If you feel you need to lose weight around your middle I suggest you look at the 8 week blood sugar diet.

gamerchick · 02/07/2018 18:12

Well you'll get fecal incontinence from them if you eat fat. You'll not know you've shat yourself until you feel the warm wet feeling. If you're lucky you might get a warning cramp first.

Sounds to me you need an exercise plan more than a diet.

TeaAndAChocolate · 02/07/2018 18:12

frogfairy - did they help you lose weight? Despite the orange leak?

AuntieStella · 02/07/2018 19:02

I looked into this when I thought my surplus weight was intractable.

If you are dieting, it might make you lose weight slightly faster. If you are not losing weight, it's not going to change that. But the difference it makes comes at the price of fatty, smelly, slippery poo and the real prospect of faecal incontinence. That really doesn't stack up for you, asyou don't have much to lose and what you describe sounds like desire to be toned.

So, exercise. Do you do yoga or Pilates? Running is great, and can give you lovely legs and (if you include hill work) a better bum, but it won't do anything for your midriff. Have you tried a programme like the 30-day Shred? Or tried some of the routines from a YouTube channel such as Fitness Blender (try the standing abs workouts?)

And I agree with other posters who are expressing concern that your body image sounds off, and that you could easily slip into totally disordered thinking/eating. When do you feel good about yourself, in a physical sort of way? Even if it's a while ago.

stopgap · 02/07/2018 19:07

Have you ever done a low-carb diet? My mum swears by this. Personally I’m slim, but I’m from a long line of apples, and know all too well how frustrating it has been for my mum, as she’s got older, to have thin limbs but a plump belly.

So either you find a way to embrace your apple shape, or go low-carb and incorporate some strength work into your workout regimen.

Wellthen · 02/07/2018 19:08

Could you afford a couple of sessions with a personal trainer? Be completely honest about what you want to target.

I can see how ‘exercise to tone’ seems like an impossible and never ending task and isn’t easy to track in the way loosing weight is. So a regular planned gym session might help.
