Stop Trump Protests

Is anyone planning on taking their kids to this?

DH thinks I would be mad to do so and is really against it. He thinks it will be very different from the Women's March because Trump is actually in the country...is expecting the protests to get 'hijacked' by other activists looking for general protest opportunities (like anarchists etc) which are nothing to do with Trump... risk of violence/ kettling from police etc.

I feel like his concerns are exaggerated - I can't see why this would descend into another London riot from 2012. But - obviously I have no way of guaranteeing this. I am on the Stop Trump FB page. I am trying to judge the temper of the posts. People booking hotel rooms in central London feels fairly "mainstream" though....

DCs are 10 and 14 (wouldn't require a day out of school to go on 13th btw.)

I have done all the practical things one would do as a (born a Yank) abroad - donating to the right causes, voting etc. But this feels really different to me. I feel like I need to be there. I'd like the DCs to be there too and grow up with the idea that activism is not a 'fringe' activity.

I'd really appreciate hearing from others thinking of going.

Trump would love it if it all kicked off. As would his base. Don't give him the satisfaction of turning up.
If you must, stand quietly and turn your back on him.
Mouthing off with homemade posters among the usual socialist worker posters will just play to his crowd.
However, if everyone had a home made poster saying "Trump means fart in English "; that might be funny.

Is everyone talking about the protests in London? I m planning on going to the one outside blenheim palace and was thinking of taking the DCs with me (if they want to). Am I being very naive thinking it won't kick off in naice area like that?

lostincake · 03/07/2018 14:01

I wouldn't go. There will be loads of violent Antifa thugs starting fights, throwing glass bottles and setting fire to shops. Not a safe place to take little kids.

Train101 · 03/07/2018 15:33

@Irene. Yes you're being naive.
That's the area trump will be going to and visiting directly so an area violence is most likely to occur.

The plan is for him to land at Stansted, go to Blenheim palace, then chequers to meet the PM and members of the cabinet and finally palace of Windsor to meet the queen.

So there's going to be a higher risk going to those places then going to central London as if you threaten the safety of the US president I can assure your wife action will be taken

@SheGotBetteDavisEyes no I didn't say that at all. Really random remark. Might as well have said they'll be off our mucking stalls and exercising the ponies. Nothing like my kids whatsoever.
