How late is too late to be using an electric saw?

Just that really, how late would it be acceptable on a Sunday evening to be out in your garden drilling and using a very loud electric saw thing cutting wood, it's a quiet area and they live next to a young child who they know would be in bed by now. What do you all think!

I'd be annoyed by any DIY in the morning/evening on a Sunday tbh.

Early morning / late evening rather *

Yes too late!

Grandadwasthatyou · 01/07/2018 21:32

I would find that very anti social and would not be happy after 8pm on a Sunday especially with young children in bed.

I'd say after 8pm

I thought 8pm also, dd bedroom window is open and we are downstairs with the door shut and can still hear it! They are new neighbours so you would think they would be slightly more respectful!

I lived in a semi-detached house with a neighbour who was into diy. He was a builder by trade so his version of diy was building his own extension. So every evening from 5/5.30 to 8.30 or 9 (when his kids went to bed), every weekend starting at 8.30 or 9 until 8.30/9. I asked him to give it a rest in the evening for a couple of weeks as both dh and I were studying for exams. He just laughed.

We got the last laugh though when we sold the house to someone who bought it as an investment and rented it out to university students 😁 I heard from another neighbour that he was complaining about parties 🎉. Given the location of the house, none of the other neighbours would have been affected by the noise so I didn't feel in the last bit guilty.

So yes, I think it's unreasonable to be making that level of noise at that hour. However, if it's a once-off, I wouldn't be too bothered (our neighbour was at it for at least 6 months, every day, except Christmas day). If it's consistent, ask them to do it earlier. Reality is, if you don't have small children yourself, you either don't know or forget bedtimes for them.
