Was the shopkeeper unreasonable

Yesterday I had to return a rather large package to amazon and in order to do this I had to go to a corner shop so they could take it when I went in the shopkeeper was scanning a many packets of individual crisps which took about 5 minutes then the moment I told her I had an amazon return she immediately told me how it was too large for them to take and that I need to get it picked up. So was she unreasonable for not tell me it was too large when I came inside the shop whilst she was scanning the many crisps and are amazon unreasonable for letting shops like this fulfill returns when they can only take small packages.

I presumed she was scanning the crisps for stocktaking or similar. Given that she was actually serving a customer, then you were most definitely unreasonable. If she engaged with you she would have been allowing you to jump the queue. Chances were if she said it was too big, you would have responded with questions or discussion. That would have been very rude to the customer ahead of you.

I own a shop and ask the staff not to start serving/having a conversation with the next person in the queue for two reasons. First I think it's rude and second they're more likely to make a mistake with the transaction.

Maybe customers often kick up a fuss when they can't unload a parcel they've lugged all the way there, and she wanted to complete the current transaction before engaging with you.

Stefoscope - yes, when a customer in the queue asks me something because I just look like I'm pressing buttons - it puts my concentration right out.

And mistakes are made!!
