This time of the year it’s the norm to take kids out on school trips. Many parents and kids think it’s a massive jolly for the teachers, when in fact it’s a 64 risk assessment to fill out, constant supervision and handing around waiting for parents to turn up and collect at the other end. We do it for kids, so get them to thank us and the driver at the end of the day; it’s a small thing and rarely happens.

So what are you asking for? Do you want the parents to thank you or for the kids to do it unprompted?

Mosschopz · 01/07/2018 10:33

Either or both. It’s just a courtesy. Personally, I’d get out of my car and go over to the coach with a cheery smile and a ‘thanks everyone, did you have fun?’ but that’s just me.

Fair enough.

DS has always thanked teachers and drivers etc. Are you at the end of your tether OP, by any chance? Do you get nothing out of it at all? Risk assessments and supervision are daily parts of school life, trips or not, a legality and duty of care, from which we can't escape, and shouldn't.

Having said that, I understand the frustration about the seeming lack of gratitude.

Oh totally agree, have no qualms about any of it at all and fully realise my responsibilities but just a bit of recognition that you don’t just grab a list of kids and go would be nice.
