To ask for advice on an intimate issue

I'm mid-cycle and my periods are usually like clockwork thanks to being on the contraceptive pill. I had a period two weeks ago and noticed nothing unusual, but for two days now I have had some cramping and bloody discharge. It's not "spotting" as I understand it, in as much as it's not fresh bright red drops of blood on the tissue, the texture is more like my normal period would be.

No way I can be pregnant unless this is a miraculous conception.

Should I be worried or is this fairly common? I'm used to have very controlled periods due to being on the pill so this is new territory for me.

Have you had regular smear tests done? You say a miraculous conception but is there the teeniest possibility? Have you had D&V? Throwing random suggestions out there x

I had a similar issue and it ended up happening every month so I went to the doctor and was referred to a gynecologist who found a poly in my womb (nothing to worry about). It was removed and all was fine. It could be something like that or it could just be a one off.

KittyVonCatsworth I always attend my smear tests. The first one I had 5 years ago they noticed some abnormal cells and I had loop treatment to remove them and then was tested again and all fine. Smear test three years after that and again results were all good. It's been about 18 months since my last one so another 18 months to go before the next.

No chance re the conception - simply not had the opportunity!

whenIsnappedandfarted I might see if it continues to happen again next month. Do you know if polyps can be observed during a normal smear test or does it require a different test?

I think you should nip to the doctors as a wee precaution lovely just in case given your history, and please don’t freak out with that; I’m definitely not qualified to make such a recommendation. Just to put your mind at rest of nothing else. Or pop into your local Well Woman clinic xx

@Candlerow2018 - it had to be done by ultrasound.

I would also get some medical advice after seeing your history, just as a precaution.
