To be upset workman screwed roller blinds into my new windows without asking?

Boring, I know, but I'm really upset about this and my friend thinks I'm overreacting. Had new windows fitted and shortly after ordered new roller blinds. They've only gone and screwed the blimmin things right in the upvc frames, when there was no actual need to. Husband says they've just taken the easy route rather than drilling into recess wall. I'm furious as I feel it's a permanent hole now - what if we want to take down blinds in future? Or change them? Grrrr. I realise this is not up there with world hunger but AIBU to complain to shop first thing Monday?

Did they not tell you beforehand where they'd be mounting them? If not then I would complain. Filling holes in a UPVC window will be harder than filling holes in a wall.

I had blinds fitted recently and they told me where they would mount them.

I’d complain. If I’d wanted a bodge job I’d have done it myself!!

WaggyMama · 30/06/2018 21:09

All my blinds have been screwed into the window frames but my windows are 25 years+, if I had new windows I'd be furious too. It only takes a minute to ask what you would prefer.

GloGirl · 30/06/2018 21:12

I'd complain, totally lazy they didn't want to use a mason drill bit Angry

Thebluedog · 30/06/2018 21:13

I think I’d go ballistic if they’ve drilled the window frames and complain!

oblada · 30/06/2018 21:14

Is it straight into it or at an angle? Make sure they didnt pierce the 'gas' part of the window inside (whatever it is. Only know that coz the same thing happened to us and what was my dad's first thought...) It is annoying I agree.

oblada · 30/06/2018 21:15

Also for me it was just 1 hole in the frame to hold the 'child safety' thing (given the window in question is above the kitchen sink the safety isn't needed but hey)... That annoyed me. I'd go ballistic if the whole thing had been screwed on the frame!!

GloGirl · 30/06/2018 21:17

And sorry when I say complain I mean - insist they replace my window frames.

FizzyGreenWater · 30/06/2018 21:21

They were not authorised to drill into your window frames!

Yes I'd go ballisitc and insist they are replaced. You did not want the window frames drilled in to and you did not say that they could!

molehill79 · 01/07/2018 20:23

Thank you everyone! I now feel justified in contacting them tomorrow to discuss... unsure how to word it but I'm sure just telling them the facts will suffice. Thanks Star

is it tilt and turn window's you have? if so it is normal to screw them into the window itself so they move with the window.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/07/2018 20:36

We've just had our windows replaced and the fitters told us specifically that we should not reattach our blinds to the uPVC frames. Maybe it's ok with some, or they were cautious of us spoiling their installation, I don't know.

ProudThrilledHappy · 01/07/2018 20:38

Doesnt that invalidate the warranty on your windows? When ours were fitted I mentioned putting blinds back up and the fitter did say not to attach to the frames for this reason

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 01/07/2018 20:49

Check terms of your window warranty, in case they have made it void

molehill79 · 01/07/2018 20:54

They're not tilt and turn, or anything like that. Previously blinds were fitted the usual way by drilling in the wall, the windows are basically the same so it was def possible Angry
