AIBU to be angry? My boyfriend had a tooth extraction few days ago & he was not given any painkillers for post extraction pain. He has being taking over the counter painkillers but the pain is only getting worse & I suspect he’s got an infection (he’s now got slight swelling on his face) so I sent him to our local walk in centre to see if they can check for infection and give him stronger painkillers. He Just got back saying they refused to check for infection or even give him painkillers saying they are not dentists. Is this right?

Isn't there an emergency dental clinic?

NewYearNewMe18 · 30/06/2018 19:40

Yes. Im afraid so. He will need to locate an emergency dentist

HopefullyAnonymous · 30/06/2018 19:42

I had exactly the same problem when I went to my dentist complaining of stomach pain. WIBU?

Hmm
Amanduh · 30/06/2018 19:45

Buy otc painkillers (cocodamol and ibuprofen.) See an emergency dentist because it’s a dental problem. As the NHS say, don’t see a gp because they aren’t dentists.
There you go Grin

It's not their area of expertise so you're unreasonable to be angry. Phone 111 and they will be able to get an appointment with an out of hours dentist.

Sirzy · 30/06/2018 19:45

Phone 111, explain the situation and ask them to book at emergency dental appontkrnt. I wouldn’t expect a walk in centre to deal with dental

BackforGood · 30/06/2018 19:54

Agree with everyone else. You need to find whatever is the emergency dentist cover in your area.

Fluffyears · 30/06/2018 19:58

Of he is swelling get something cold into his face like a bag of peas. Do not use heat as it can draw infection into the facial tissues. Get him to swish with very hot salty water, sleep propped up and use strongest painkillers he can find.

kitkatsky · 30/06/2018 20:02

Yes, this is right. He needs an emergency dentist. Sorry

Phillipa12 · 30/06/2018 20:04

Sounds like he has probably got a dry socket, they are very painful and you need a dentist.

WatchingFromTheWings · 30/06/2018 20:22

I've had 2 teeth removed, never been given pain relief so had to buy my own.

And yes, if there is dental pain/infection, it would be a dentist you'd need.

SoddingUnicorns · 30/06/2018 20:23

Call 111 there’s a dental section in the bit where it tells you what numbers to press for what.
