to think that scented sanitary products are gross.

I hate the smell of scented products. The perfumey stench has become associated in my mind with being unclean. I liken it to lingering stale perfume after a night out. Yuk

You can smell the products on the shelves before you even unwrap them. I don't really ever use these products but occassionally (in an extreme emergency) when I do I'm boggled by why someone would ever want to put a product with such a hideous chemical smell near there nethers. Why?

Rockandrollwithit · 29/06/2018 21:27

I use resueabld sanitary pads and have done for ages.

Last month I wasn't on top of washing and so had to use some scented disposable ones. So uncomfortable and what a horrible smell.

Batteriesallgone · 29/06/2018 21:30

I switched to cloth. Amazing. Never going back to plastic

Shockers · 29/06/2018 21:30

I hate them.

Please listen #always

NeedAUsernameGenerator · 29/06/2018 21:32

I also hate them and I can't even see how to tell which is which so I keep buying them by accident. Any tips???

GirlCroosh · 29/06/2018 21:34

They do it on purpose! It's just a tiny flower in a corner that shows the scented ones. I've bought them by accident a few times. Horrible

Lefroy · 29/06/2018 21:39

Yes! After I had DC2 I sent my mum to find some under strict instructions on how to decode sanitary wear speak 'fresh feel' etc

Neither of us usually use them so it was a bit of shock at how hard it is to find plain ones.

EdWinchester · 29/06/2018 21:39

I’m in the USA and think it’s quite a big thing here, along with shower gels for your fanny.

There is a ludicrous ad on tv where a man in the shower is told by his wife that he’s using her ‘v wash’. Obviously traumatised, he immediately has to go out and spend a day on ‘manly’ pursuits like pulling a car with his teeth and splitting concrete blocks.

TarragonChicken · 29/06/2018 22:00

...and I have just worked out that when people (on mumsnet) say san pro, they literally mean sanitary products. I have been thinking there is a brand (a bit like GoPro?) of tampons/pads that I have never come across in 20+ years of bleeding from the cunt.

YANBU, OP. That artificial scent makes my stomach turn!

CornishMaid1 · 29/06/2018 23:33

YANBU. I hate it too and only realized last month that the horrible reaction I was getting each month was caused by the evil always scenting (only realised from another thread on her about it).

Shame to change from always to body form but I don't get a reaction now as they are unscented.

seventhgonickname · 29/06/2018 23:38

I also go sniffing down the isles but it is getting harder to find unscented.I have to have canestan onstandy to reduce the irritation and itching.

Thesearmsofmine · 29/06/2018 23:48

YANBU I’m currently feeling sore after wearing a scented pad that i accidentally bought. I hate them. the scent reminds me of car air fresheners.

I use cloth pads too but at night use disposable.

OptimisticIntrovert · 30/06/2018 00:01

Another one here... it is such a cheap smell. Just finished my first month of washable cloth pads and I realise how many years I have wasted on horrid scratchy sweaty minging disposables.
I am a reusable convert!

TeaAddict235 · 30/06/2018 11:30

@Batteriesallgone where do you get the cloths ones from?

longwayoff · 30/06/2018 13:56

Ollivander. I got some wretched scented loo roll as substitute in online delivery used it once and have been itching for the last year. spending a fortune on Aveena. Its sensitised me to all other tissue and I cant find non-reactive loo roll. Can I please ask what brand you use?

Ollivander84 · 30/06/2018 14:24

Long - I use a cheap one but I'm only sensitive to scented!

longwayoff · 30/06/2018 14:35

Oh bother. Was hopeful there. Never mind thanks very much for taking time to reply.

Ollivander84 · 30/06/2018 14:49

It's ok! I think the cheap stuff is often less irritating

IHaveBrilloHair · 30/06/2018 14:52

I use a mooncup and cloth pads partly for this reason

Praisebe · 30/06/2018 14:57

If anything it draws attention to the fact your on your period because the pads give off such a strong smell !! Periods don't smell anyway but when you mix blood with that vile perfumed pad it does 😷 not good for vaginal health to have anything chemically like that sat up against it for days on end

Ollivander84 · 30/06/2018 15:43

Long - if you haven't then might be worth seeing the GP, and if you're really fed up maybe try using cut up towels/flannels to wipe to break the itch/soreness?

wonderingcloud · 30/06/2018 15:47

After 16m breastfeeding I bought my 'normal' towels to discover they now stink and made irritated me. Switched to supermarket own brand but am interested in washables.

letsallhaveanap · 30/06/2018 15:56

I have been wearing scented dailies during my pregnancy and I do like them as TMI WARNING my crotch gets so yuck because of the heat and the weight im carrying, so im glad of the 'cleaning product smell' tbh!....

I wouldnt wear scented pads on my period however, I dont think there is any need as I dont find the smell of blood offensive, its a natural bodily process and I dont think its dirty although it is a waste product I guess... and the chemical flowery smell they put on those pads doesnt really cover it anyway just mixes oddly and somehow makes it worse than the natural smell....

sweat, urine and pregnancy related gank I do want covered up with a chemical smell tho!

EmpressOfSpartacus · 30/06/2018 16:00

Another one who's switched to cloth pads. I use www.cheekywipes.com/cloth-sanitary-pads-kits.html and they're so much nicer.

Jozxyqk · 30/06/2018 16:07

I used to get thrush and / or a UTI every month, for about a decade. Read about menstrual cups on MN & as soon as I started using a cup, no more monthly woes. I also recently started using cloth pads, as I get migraines & can't always cope with the hassle of a cup if the two coincide... never going back.

longwayoff · 30/06/2018 16:13

Thanks ollivander that's what I'm doing just letting non irritant cotton touch the sensitive area. But oh what a faff every time you pee especially when you're out away from home. May see gp as you suggest although it seems too trivial really. Annoying more than anything. Thanks again for your help.
