Neighbour has stolen DP’s trainers

Bit of a weird one.
I live in a terraced house and my back door is opposite my neighbour’s back door (about 3 meters apart) with just a low wall and a gate seperating us (the gate is always open).

DP has put his trainers by the back door for literally 30 seconds while he ran upstairs to get something. When he came back downstairs the trainers were gone. No one else was around other than the neighbour who was hovering by his back door having a cigarette.

My DP looked around a bit but the trainers were nowhere to be seen. Seems highly unlikely that someone could have come down the alleyway into our garden and stolen them in the 30 seconds timeframe that they were left by the door. Also very unlikely that an animal went off with them.

So this leaves the neighbour. DP asked him if he’d seen what happened since he had been by his door at the time. He said no and then went straight inside and shut the door. So again, this rules out some random person stealing them as surely the neighbour would just say if this were the case.

He’s very odd and never speaks to us even though he’s been here 6 years. My DP is livid as they were expensive trainers from
America that he got for his birthday last month.

Dont know what we can do as he’ll just deny it if we ask him again. And we can’t exacty go and search his house for them.

Not really sure what I’m asking - just wanted to rant about how shitty people can be sometimes. Really hope I catch him wearing them so I can give him a piece of my mind

Police?

Cismyass · 29/06/2018 17:32

Neighbour has stolen them and is setting up a shrine to your DH or wanking over them Grin

MsHomeSlice · 29/06/2018 17:36

he might try to sell them if they are in good condition...keep a look out on local selling sites and ask a stranger (to him) to do the arranging and then send your husband round to collect them

ApolloandDaphne · 29/06/2018 17:39

I would call the police and see what they say.

SaucyJack · 29/06/2018 17:44

Unless the neighbour is likely to tur violent, then maybe you should just barge in and look for them?

confusedlittleone · 29/06/2018 17:45

@SaucyJack and what do you propose they do if they don't find them?
