Just that really. It’s ruined the match for me already.

I hate Hoddle with a Passion! My views on him were broadcast on Radio 2 by Jimmy Young at the time.

SoddingUnicorns · 28/06/2018 19:41

So it’s not just him

And? It doesn’t make it any more acceptable.

Delphinius · 28/06/2018 19:44

As well as questionable views, he's also a shite pundit / co-commentator.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 28/06/2018 19:47

Get over yourself - it was disgraceful he was hounded out of the job. The managers that came after him not fit to tie his boots. Most knowledgeable pundit.

I'm glad he was 'hounded' out of a job - one he wasn't that good at anyway. It's just a shame he ever got another one.

The ignorant idiot has obviously never experienced a loved one with a disability, or if he has he's more of a waste of oxygen than I thought. It never even crossed my mind when my disabled Dad was shouting in pain or saying that an animal wouldn't be allowed to suffer like him that he might have done something to deserve it in a previous life. But thankfully most normal people wouldn't.

The likes of Hoddle and those who make excuses for him should be ashamed of themselves.

2up2manydown · 28/06/2018 19:48

I recall the disablist comments. But I’m sure I was at school at the time - 25 yrs ago??!

84CharingCrossRoad · 28/06/2018 19:50

It was January 1999....

Bahhhhhumbug · 28/06/2018 19:50

Don't catholic s have a similar view that everything was idyllic living in the garden of Eden and would have stayed that way if only Eve hadn't 'sinned' and ate that apple. I can't stand him though his 'wide boy' accent goes through me.

SugarIsAmazing · 28/06/2018 19:52

I don't agree with what he said but I don't see why someone's opinion can get you sacked.
His personal views are nothing to do with his employment.

SoddingUnicorns · 28/06/2018 19:52

He also made a racist comment while commentating in 2011 so I guess he’s still an unreconstructed dickhead.

SoddingUnicorns · 28/06/2018 19:53

His personal views are nothing to do with his employment

They are when he uses his public profile to air them. A police officer was sacked without notice today for using racial slurs. No difference that I can see, only he’s white, male and famous.

84CharingCrossRoad · 28/06/2018 19:56

Phil Nevilles daughter is disabled. Wonder what he thinks of Hoddle?

LaurieFairyCake · 28/06/2018 19:57

Provoked a real argument in this house

I’m happy he was fired and don’t think he should be commentating

Dh says that people shouldn’t be fired for their religious beliefs and said it’s fascistic to do so (he also vehemently disagrees with the belief but defends his right to say it when asked by journalists)

I say he was stupid to answer the question and shouldn’t have done so

Dh says he wasn’t exactly media savvy when he did so

We then got onto Tim Farron Hmm

GunpowderGelatine · 28/06/2018 19:59

Actually, they are.

If you have a job where you're in an influential position, people look up to you. They admire you, emulate you and are influenced by you. This gives you power. If you are in a position of power and are shown to be spouting dangerous, unsubstantiated bullshit about marginalised groups, then that has an affect on your followers/worshippers. You only have to look at Twitter when a Male celebrity fucks op, the support they get (Ian Watkins for example). ITV cannot have presenters doing that and still be putting them on a pedestal.

I imagine if most of us publicly aired those views, or racist/misogynistic views etc,our bosses would be having words on Monday

SoddingUnicorns · 28/06/2018 19:59

@84CharingCrossRoad. Ally McCoist’s son (they were working together at the time) is also disabled. It’s about the only time I’ve ever agreed with anything McCoist had to say when he kicked off at Hoddle!

RusholmeRuffian · 28/06/2018 20:00

YANBU. Aside from his fucked up opinions, he's a dreadful commentator who offers absolutely no insight.

SoddingUnicorns · 28/06/2018 20:01

Posters defending him/his rights clearly have no idea of the negative impact of disablism and the sheer shit that is aimed at disabled people on a daily basis.

The fact it is normalised by scum like Hoddle and defended by people who have no idea of the impact it has is bloody
depressing.

84CharingCrossRoad · 28/06/2018 20:02

Well done McCoist!!

GunpowderGelatine · 28/06/2018 20:03

He can fuck off blaming Christian beliefs too. I know many Christians, not one shares his views (nor is this in the Bible I believe)

allthatmalarkey · 28/06/2018 20:09

@Bahhhhhumbug I can't really get the gist of what you're saying, but if you're trying to say Roman Catholics believe people are disabled as a punishment for the sin of Eve that would anti-Catholic twaddle.

Bahhhhhumbug · 28/06/2018 21:01

Not at all and am sure most catholics/christians believe no such thing but the bible does seem to suggest that everything was idyllic until Adam and Eve 'sinned' and were punished by being thrown out of paradise.
I was brought up as a Roman Catholic and lm sure none of my family believe /believed GH's views. I'm just stating that the connection between sin and punishment is there..

Bahhhhhumbug · 28/06/2018 21:02

in the bible.

ForalltheSaints · 28/06/2018 21:19

ITV have

Glenn Hoddle- with his views on disabled people
Roy Keane- who advocated being violent towards one of the national coaches
Ryan Giggs- who had an affair with his brother's wife and tried to silence someone else he had an affair with.
Piers Morgan- remember his time as a newspaper editor where he misrepresented British soldiers.

Fuckwithnosensesauce · 28/06/2018 21:54

I thought his commentary was very quiet and I wondered if it had been deliberate alteredsoasnot to offend us?
