Does anyone think Its just too hot to go camping?

Or to do hardly anything for that matter ☹️

Depends where you are camping - an open field with no shade would be too hot but a lovely, shady woodland site would be gorgeous in this heat.

Camping in hot weather is great - on a shady site, preferably with pool/beach/lake for swimming nearby. You just really need your tent to be out of the sun morning and late afternoon.

Thanks both. I wonder how you find out of the site is shaded.

Hi
We’ve just come back from camping, not a particularly shaded site, our tent was in a field with gorgeous views but no shade. However, my tent does have awning on it so throughout the day we just followed the shade around the tent and moved our chairs to accommodate. Keep hydrated in the day and be sensible. Keep your tent well ventilated throughout the day, use freezer blocks to keep food items cool and enjoy yourself! Brilliant weather to be out and about! Night time still got a little chilly even with covers on.

Hi disney. What do you mean your tent had an awning? Is that the same thing as a canopy? How did you find it without shade? Thanks

Sorry re-read it. You followed the shade around 🙂

I’m going to try and look for some shaded sites 🙂

I was in a tent last summer in the Italian heat wave. Night times weren’t the most comfortable I’ve ever been, but certainly not the worst!

Lots of sites specify if the pitch is shaded or not.

I camped at Low Wray campsite in the lake district at the end of May when it was pretty hot. The tent didn't get too hot during the day and stayed fairly warm at night too.
This was pitch 213, it was a lovely campsite, fairly basic but fab location.

One thing I would recommend if you go to a woodland site is to rig a tarp up over your tent or buy a tent protector. There was a lot of tree sap, bird poo and caterpillars to clean off the tent before packing it up after a week here!!!

Is it fuck-seriously hoping it's like this when we go rather than overcast or pissing down. YABsoU.

Happypuppy · 28/06/2018 23:06

I’m on a short stay (motorhome) camp at the moment with dh and dogs in the south and it’s been bliss.

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 28/06/2018 23:16

Get a bell tent. Amazing! No hot sweaty tent, roll the sides up and laze around under the shade all day!

We are in our MH this week and it is amazing SmileSmileSmile

We are having a great time SmileSmileSmile

Last weekend there were loads of families that came just for weekend (obviously they are still at school)

The children were having so much fun, playing football together, making new friends, on roller skates, scooters and bikes it was lovely to see SmileSmileSmile

twinklz · 29/06/2018 09:18

Ok, thanks for everyone’s advice Smile

Sorry about delay, canopy or addronal awnings are invaluable. Whether it’s for yourself or your coolbag of food!

WerkSupp · 29/06/2018 19:02

I'd be too hot. I'm a perimenopausal hot, sweaty mess.
