to go on holiday without 2 year old's car seat

We are going to Portugal next week, and will get a taxi from the airport yo the apartment. Is it common to sit 2 year old on lap for the transfer or do people usually take their own car seats?

We are already taking a buggy and travel cot as the two items of 'free' baby luggage allowed by the airline, but i think its probably ok to pay to check in a third item. Our car seat is the Joie spin 360, so i think we'd probably need to buy a new lightweight one if we need to carry it around airports. Or do people just generally go without if the car journeys are few and short?

OP, what about when you are going out and about for the day? What about a car seat then or will you only be going places that are accessible on foot with the baby in the buggy?

coffee please pay attention to the posts advising you that having a child on your lap in the car is the most dangerous way for them to travel, more dangerous than them being unrestrained. Please don’t ever put him on your lap in a car again.

You can put a car seat into the plane seat, we did this with ds recently who had just turned 2.
We had no problems from the airline about it.

So two adults and a child of 2. Would that not be 3 full fare tickets so a piece of baby equipment with each ticket?

Yes 3 full fare but easyjet flights, so we just need to pay to add on any hold luggage, in addition to the 2 free baby items.

Some airlines wont allow it or will only allow certain makes if I recall correctly.

Im not in the UK so haven't flown with EasyJet so I thought it would be one piece with each ticket. Please pay to take the car seat. And yes, Im aware I must sound like a reformed smoker Blush

Private transfers are often cheaper than hiring a cab, so it's a good option.

We arrive in Portugal next week too! Is there a summer holiday equivalent of a naice scarf to identify fellow mumsnetters?

Floradoranora · 28/06/2018 19:11

Isn't there a MN scarf?
