Doorbell wars

So got a new doorbell a month or so ago. It's setting off my neighbour across the roads doorbell she has the exact same brand and model 🙄 been looking at new ones because my husband has made me be neighbourly and get a new one. Is there such a thing as one that won't interfere? More than one frequency? I don't think we should have to get a new one, our doorbell only gets used about 4 times a week but apparently it's annoying for her because they literally never go out so are there every time it goes off. AIBU to think sod it and just keep our one? I know it's not neighbourly but I think if I get a new one it might keep happening and what a waste of money just because they're there every time it rings.

Whats the model, have you checked if you can't change the frequency or something?

PurpleCrazyHorse · 28/06/2018 10:48

You can usually change the frequency it chimes on to avoid this problem. There's often a switch or jumpers on the bit the fixes to the door (sometimes under the casing if it comes apart, probably near to where the battery goes).

Does their's set off yours? As you bought yours second you should change it. I imagine it's quite irritating for them.

Read the instructions, change the frequency/code.

Of course you're being unreasonable! I'm sure you wouldn't like it if their doorbell was setting yours off every time somebody used it! Not their fault that yours does it.
Why do you think that you shouldn't have to buy a new one? That's an incredibly selfish attitude. None of your business if they never go out - simple fact is, they had their doorbell first!
We live in a block of flats with intercoms. I've lost count of the amount of times people ring our door buzzer rather than the person they need. It's so annoying!
Check if you can change the frequency, if not, you'll need to get a different bell and suck it up.

MrTrebus · 28/06/2018 20:58

Definitely can't change the frequency I've checked with the manufacturer. Theirs doesn't set ours off but they're always in, never seen to have any visitors and we're mostly at work so I wouldn't know actually. Suitably told off, new one bought!

Over the road sets ours off, they have a lot of visitors and a kid that rings it over and over again!

It doesn't bother us, We changed the tone so ours is a different tone to theirs. Afaik ours doesn't affect theirs.
