To have been in the fast lane?

The outside pool was heaving today. I'm not a fast swimmer but not the slowest either. In the slow lane were three women all bumbling along. Medium lane were two men who seemed well matched. In the fast lane was man swimming at a good clip. WIBU to swim in the fast lane?

Not if you kept an eye on the fast man and pulled over at lane ends so he could overtake nicely.

Was he going round you and or being held up by you?

There is no right answeet. My lane changes everytime I turn up. The dynamics of each lane changes every time someone new jumps in. Just stick with your evaluation when u first turned up.

If the man in the fast lane had room to overtake you and you let push off first once you got to the end then I don’t see why not. If someone else got in faster than you you should move

Why couldn’t you join the men in the medium lane?

With one other person in the lane, it's fine to swim in the fast lane because the other person can get past you. With one more it is probably ok. More than that and it is not OK because the faster swimmers can't overtake.

It also depends to some extent how you swim. If you are swimming breaststroke with your legs and arms going wider than your shoulders or old-fashioned backstroke, then you will wind up faster swimmers (because you are hard to pass).
