Flies!!

Where are they all coming from?!

I have a lovely clean house, no fruit on the counter, bin covered, no dog poo outside and the bastards just keep coming.
I wouldn't mind so much if they were quiet but the buzzing has to be the most infuriating, irritating noise there is.

DH takes great delight in swatting them but I don't like the idea of killing things and it upsets the dog.
But even I relented just now on counting 18 buzzing around my kitchen and having sex. Yes really, in my kitchen. Vom.
Smacked a few with my flip flop but the sight of dead squashed flies actually made me feel a bit Ill so now I'm sat in my living room watching more of the assholes flying and buzzing around.

Suggestions?
I don't want to use fly spray, DH bought some last year and I found the smell near unbearable.
I'm not into fly papers either as its my understanding they attract them then kill them.
I don't want to attract anymore, just get rid of the ones I've got and keep new ones away.

The Executioner

Use away and fry the bastards. We have zero flies because my DH takes intense pleasure in zapping them and they are not allowed to procreate.

I think my uncle had one of these.
Said they frazzle and you can smell them burning.
I really hate the idea of killing them actually but I can't stand them!!
My DH wants to get one of the fly fryers...

Is there anything I can do to stop them coming in in the first place?
Essential oils maybe??

I have no idea. We tried it all and over the years the flies started getting fatter and as big as a bee. That's when we decided to just kill them all. We have consistently killed every single fly over 2 years and now we rarely get any.

Wow in amazed at the number of flies here, makes new wonder if there isn't a reason for them, like a manured field nearby. I keep my doors and windows open. During the day I get a few gather to fly in a circle in my living room, the odd bee looking to be escorted out, but by bed time they're all gone.

We are getting them really bad this year. I have 5 fly strips in the kitchen, 3 in the living room and 1 in the downstairs toilet. Just brought some smelly stuff they apparently don’t like, trying to grow basil out side the widows/near the door as some website claims they don’t like the smell. I might buy one of those electric tennis rackets tomorrow. Although flea bombs kill everything when we have to bomb the house last year even the spiders and flys died.

I can't see a reason.
No fertilised fields, we had a very bad year once when our neighbour decided to hoard rubbish...
But no problems there for a long time!
I can't work out what it could be attracting them

What kind of flies are they though? Do you keep windows and doors open? Mesh screens are good for doors and windows the, only coppers from b&m.

Bluebottles hatch in dead things, houseflies! hatch in shit.

ElspethFlashman · 27/06/2018 21:05

If its the wee tiny ones it's probably a nest (vom) in the kitchen sink drain (heave).

Returnofthesmileybar · 27/06/2018 21:06

Get yourself a fly door, we were infested last year and bought a €3 fly door and we were fly free with it. We took it down after the summer and put it back up a few weeks ago, they are great!! I used to find the fuckers everywhere, every time I opened a load of bread one would fly out

Snappymcsnappy · 27/06/2018 21:08

I think they are house flies.
Fairly large, black, intensely annoying buzzing, like to land on you/buzz near you.
I hate them!

I don't have any dead things (that I am aware of) in my house or garden.
I do have a dog and cat but I am fairly sure they is little to no shit anywhere.

I buy those long fly curtain things from Amazon for about £5 and put them over doors, flies don’t like flying in through them!

gamerchick · 27/06/2018 21:11

The big ones are bluebottles and they hatch in dead meat. Maybe a rodent body simewhere?

Itsveryhard · 27/06/2018 21:13

One year we had loads. We went on holiday and put up fly strips and when we came back there were loads on there and it seemed to solve the problem!
