AIBU to let 7mth baby watch tv today?

MaryShelley1818 · 27/06/2018 08:38

I’ve been up vomiting since 7pm last night...probably been sick about 12 times.
I slept downstairs while DP had baby upstairs, but I’ve only had about 3hrs.
DP working from home and is going to try and juggle baby alongside work this morning (there’s only 3 of them work at company and the other 2 are in Germany in meetings so unfortunately some work needs to be done as they provide a service).

My parents are elderly but are going to come for a couple of hours this afternoon and take DS for a walk in his pushchair.

So....would I be the worst mother ever to let him sit in his highchair for a bit in between while I lay on the sofa, and let him watch Peppa/Baby Sensory/Nursery Rhymes?

I’m really struggling to even sit up and can barely stand. I came up the stairs on my hands and knees this morning.

Go for it. Will do him no harm at all.

Brendatheblender · 27/06/2018 08:41

Do it, it won’t do him any harm.

I hope you are feeling better soon OP Flowers

Gunpowder · 27/06/2018 08:43

Definitely go for it. Hope you feel better soon

KittyVonCatsworth · 27/06/2018 08:44

My previous posts suggest I’m not the most switched on person when it comes to babies 😂 but does he have a low level bouncy chair instead of a high chair? You’re obviously exhausted and could accidentally snooze off and leaving a 7 month old in a high chair could be a bit dangerous. Happy to be corrected by wiser MNers though!

YADNBU though to plonk him in front of the TV today though. Get well soon Flowers

coffeeforone · 27/06/2018 08:45

YANBU. Definitely fine for baby to watch TV in these circumstances! Sounds like you do have a bit of support too which you should make the most of as much as you DP and parents are able. Hope you feel better soon!

MaryShelley1818 · 27/06/2018 08:47

Thank you everyone xx I expected a lecture on the use of tvs for babies!

Good point about safety. The highchair is adjustable and converts to a normal seat too. DP will move his work into the kitchen (open plan) so will be able to see DS from the kitchen table and see to him if I nod off x

You know when you are sick and have children you do what you have to do so you can get through the day,I hope you feel better soon Flowers

MaryShelley1818 · 27/06/2018 08:48

I just feel so guilty wasting beautiful weather. I was supposed to be taking DS to the farm for the day :(

Isn't there a baby tv channel somewhere it is educational all those colours and noises 😀

RuggerHug · 27/06/2018 08:52

Little baby bum on YouTube if you can get it on the tv/tablet. Mind yourself, hope you feel better soon!

MrsJayy · 27/06/2018 08:53

Least granny and grandad will get him out for a bit you can save the farm for another day, you are tired feel rough emotional don't let guilt eat at you as well.

notfromstepford · 27/06/2018 08:54

Go for it - you need to recover and a some time in front of the TV won't do any harm at all.
The weather is supposed to be good all week and in to the weekend - the farm can wait till you're better!

theanonymum1 · 27/06/2018 08:55

OP yes it’s beautiful weather but actually my DS hates the heat SO MUCH that yesterday I cut our trip to the butterfly house/little farm place short because he was bloody miserable! He’s two and spent s good portion of yesterday in just his nappy, watching the gojetters on repeat and playing with his trains. There is nothing wrong with tv every now and then... and if you don’t rest it’ll take you double the time to recover. I hope you feel better soon Flowers

BendydickCuminsnatch · 27/06/2018 08:56

Omg do it! My second is 7 months and LOVES CBeebies when it’s on for his brother. I was so surprised he liked it as it didn’t occur to me to try tv until my first was like 18 months 🤣

Deshasafraisy · 27/06/2018 08:56

I wouldn’t think twice about doing this

Candyflip · 27/06/2018 08:58

I was like you, I felt I should always be at the farm or the beach or constantly entertaining them. When I calmed down I realised that I was still a good mum when we didn’t get dressed, or leave the house or watching back to back episodes of shit CBeebies (even when no one was sick) besides my kids were happiest playing with mud or buttons, you can find those anywhere.

SleepingStandingUp · 27/06/2018 08:58

Yep just make sure he's well strapped in and put on the kids tv, he'll be fine

MaryShelley1818 · 27/06/2018 09:07

You’ve made me cry (but in a good way!! Lol)
Who ever thought this would happen on AIBU.
Thanks all...really appreciate it.

I still have plans for tomorrow, Friday and Sunday. Then DP is off next week and we’ve got some days out planned and a night away. Plus we were away at CenterParcs weekend before last so poor DS is probably desperate for a rest day! Lol! (We don’t usually have so much planned btw just a coincidence it all came at once).

MagicFajita · 27/06/2018 09:10

Definitely do it op.

We have a series record set up for ds' favourite cbeebies shows. We pop them on when we need five minutes to get things done.

I hope you feel better soonFlowers

Poodles1980 · 27/06/2018 09:10

Mother goose club on Netflix or YouTube is great for these situations and it will not turn your child into a zombie or a murderer

NoProbLlama78 · 27/06/2018 09:22

Keep blippi on youtube in mind for when he's older. DD loves blippi and he's fun with educational videos.

IdLikeABiscuitPlease · 27/06/2018 09:24

I couldn't care less about the "tv is bad for you crap", if my DS would actually sit and bloody watch the thing!!

Admittedly I probably watch tv once a month at most (doesn't interest me), so I presume he takes after me!

Do whatever you need to!

Isabella1978 · 27/06/2018 09:26

Hey Duggee on bbc is excellent, my 9 month old loves it and has watched it since 3 months. She has playmat I'm living room floor and roams around with toys whilst it is on. If I doze off she will still be fine...11 year old survived all those years ago!
Am currently recovering from total hip replacement so am limited in what I can do with the baby.
TV will not hurt and allows you to get better quicker.

Theweasleytwins · 27/06/2018 09:26

Put on Little Baby Bum- it's educational 😁

My toddlers are watching it while I have a lie down-I'm 21 weeks pg and exhausted

FairyMcHairy · 27/06/2018 09:26

I'm guessing you wouldn't judge somebody else for doing the same thing! You don't need approval for your own parenting decisions. Get well soon!
