Youngest DD is bright and happy at home. Very anxious about school. Doesn’t really enjoy school. She’s good at sports and is above average lots of friend s etc.
This week is sports week. She hates sports day. She got so distressed last year they allowed her to opt out. This year again - very upset crying every night. Not wanting to do it because ‘all the parent will stare at her’ - people watching is the problem.
It’s sports kit all week and different activities at school every day. She can’t handle it and is crying every night. She’s the same before school trips.

What can I do? She doesn’t seem to trust the teachers, who she says ‘won’t listen to her and make her do it’— I’m a teacher, I’m aware hat this is her perception and not necessarily the truth.

Any advice? Should I keep her off tomorrow but back in thu and fri or make her ‘face her fears?’

On sports day for races etc she came out Crying with a TA and had the TA with her one to one the whole session.... any advice or similar experiences will be so helpful. Thank you xx

how old is she?

I wouldn't keep her off but I would speak to her teacher and ask of she can sit it out. Can she do another time such as keeping scores?

It sounds like she is very shy which might get better as she gets older but her anxiety sounds quite bad - would it be worth talking to a GP /HV for further advice to help her manage this?
