to ask you all for first child free holiday ideas?

We have never been on holiday without the kids. Ideally we would love to go to Bora Bora for a week (special anniversary this summer) but we realise it is prohibitively expensive.

So - AIBU to ask for kid-free holiday ideas / suggestions in August for the two of us, preferably short-haul or even at home in the UK, and a beach, a bit of culture / romance, and perhaps the luxury of an all inclusive?

Hopefully you wonderful lot will come up with something so fabulous we won't feel TOO guilty about leaving the kids at home...

Montenegro!!!

Just come back! Hot, sun, sea, sand (in places), cheap, stunning food, so much culture etc. Have a day trip or two to Croatia next door. Spend time in the stunning mountains.

I love Barcelona but not sure about August. Girona is interesting and has one of the best restaurants in the world El Celler de Can Roca (on my to do list )

I second Morocco, short flight, just did trekking in the Atlas Mountains, short stay at luxury hotel, then into Marrakech for shopping and souks.... all organised by Fleewinter. Cheap but luxurious!!!

Is it total budget of £1500? Santorini would be a stretch at that in August. We stayed in Pyrgos at Carpe Diem and it was divine, very peaceful. Oia is crazy busy, especially at sunset!

Marrakech will be really hot in August so only go there if you like the heat. DH is Algerian and it can be crazy hot in N Africa. Marrakech is further South than DH’s family

Barcelona. Mooching around, beach, get around on a trikshaw, sangria in the afternoon, get a hotel with roof top pool. Perfect!

DB and DSIL recommend Sicily and Corsica. Not too far away, warm, lots to do, see and eat.

If you're after something really cheap and cheerful while you save up for something more spectacular, I've had lots of fun adults-only trips to Brighton. DH and I have been, my mum and I have been and I took my DD (age 20) down to see my friend there quite recently. We've normally been to see something good at the theatre one night, then spent the other nights trying out different restaurants, people watching and watching the sea.

Yes, it's beautiful there. It was winter when we went as we were skiing, stayed in a hotel right on the lake which was frozen, stunning scenery.

Thanks all - we've been busy googling and your recommendations are fab. Slovenia is certainly something to work with and we have both decided we must visit Montenegro. Morocco I fear would be too hot in August but for another time. Equally a few days in Brighton looks good too. We shall continue searching but thank you everyone for giving us your ideas.

@TravelBug747 just had a thought. Check out Secret Escapes. We've used them in the past and got a really great deal. They have some nice adult only hotels.
