Driving home from the gym today and I passed the main roundabout outside our huge regional hospital (major trauma centre , all sorts of specialities etc gigantic place).
The roundabout is 2 metres from the main hospital signage denoting name of hospital etc.
I notice a man , in hospital pyjama bottoms, lying with eyes closed on the grass in centre of roundabout , blood all over his face, in the hot sun(32 degrees right now). WIBU to go to the A&E and let them know (15 metres further on up the road) ?? As it goes I got laughed out of there as it was "none of their concern" but I thought it was the quickest route of action bar calling 999. ?!

Maybe he is sunbathing?

Nicknacky · 26/06/2018 15:03

watching Rather strange place to sunbathe, don't you think?

And if he is then he will be hunted somewhere more suitable.

anon135 · 26/06/2018 15:05

Once a person is off hospital grounds then the hospital bear no responsibility for them. In this instance, 999 would be most appropriate despite the person being right next to the hospital (at least the ambulance won't have to drive far!)

Nicknacky · 26/06/2018 15:07

Our ambulance depots are miles from the hospital.

DeathByMascara · 26/06/2018 15:09

Why is the OP getting such a hard time here?? She tried to help, was chased and is now being called all sorts!

SouthernComforts · 26/06/2018 15:11

Glad help is on its way.

When a nurse collapsed on the children's ward my dd was a patient on, the staff called an ambulance and paramedics came. The hospital has an adult A&E attached. I assume the staff were only registered/allowed to treat children?!

Bramble71 · 26/06/2018 15:12

Hope the man concerned is ok.

Exactly this!

poochesforlife · 26/06/2018 15:16

I did what I thought was right initially. The police are now aware and presumably attending.

OP ignore the hard time you are given. I would not have approached him personally because outside the hospital I used to live near there were all kinds of aggressive alcoholics, people doing drugs etc and you just don’t know what someone is on or what’s happening. You did your best and the right people have been contacted now.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 26/06/2018 15:25

Jeez, OP, you try to do someone a favour and then get lambasted cos you did it "wrong"!
Well done for caring, well done for stopping at A&E in the first place and I'm glad you posted because it prompted people to tell you to call the police - but I don't think they needed to be quite so fucking harsh in the WAY they posted!!

'No good deed ever goes unpunished' OP, especially on MN.

poochesforlife · 26/06/2018 15:51

Evidently.

UPDATE! Apparently man is gone but trousers are still there on the grass!

I’m guessing the police will find him soon, well done getting him help OP.

It's like the empty clothing scene from Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? Grin

waterlego6064 · 28/06/2018 20:23

Just to respond to the apparent confusion the OP has about whether to phone ambulance or police...either way it's 999, and the person on the end of the phone is trained to ascertain which services are needed at the incident. It don't think it matters whether you say 'police' or 'ambulance', or 'fire', for that matter when they answer, as they will ask enough questions to get an idea of what's happened and who needs to attend!

Spontaneously combusted?
