Has anyone seen a endocrinologist for PCOS? I have an appointment this afternoon and interested to know what's going to happen.

I have posted in woman's health and general health but no responses

I see mine around once a month for pcos and thyroid but i dont live in the UK and can choose if I feel I need it. I usually have an ultrasound and if he thinks I need it, a blood test. He put me on Yasmin and I generally don't get cysts anymore and androgens are better.

Thanks for your reply. Having some more tests done before course of treatment decided. Unfortunately, I can't take contraceptive pill

Do they treat PCOS? I got told I had it when I wast ttc but nobody has suggested anything since, had some blood tests after 6 years for diabetes and thyroid check as you can be more likely to get that when older but thats it.
They gave me metformin to help regulate my periods and to concieve but it has some crappy sideaffects.

Yes, I had to go to GP back in March because I haven't had a period in over a year but having spotting sometimes. Blood tests revealed my levels were very high compared to last set so I was referred.

I also have had Metformin which didn't agree with me either. There is another drug they can give for PCOS (can't remember the name of it) but it's a lot stronger than Metformin.

I just need to have some more tests done before he hopefully starts me on the drug in 2 months time.

Why wouldn't you treat it? It's a horrid condition.

I went to see a doctor for the first time in about 6 years to ask if any advancement in treatment as my weight is pretty much uncontrollable now and I have very heavy pigmentation issues around my face.
He told me no there’s nothing except weight watchers etc (doesn’t work for PCOS’rs).

I used to see an Endocrinologist when I was initially diagnosed with PCOS, they're a great help. Mine identified that I was also insulin resistant and put me on Metformin to help curb it otherwise I was at risk of blowing out into Type2 diabetes. It was a massive help and since then I've managed to halve my weight and went on to have two DC's and am currently pregnant with #3. GP's didn't seem very knowledgeable at the time about PCOS or the associated complications that can arise (I'm not sure many GP's really are still yet..)

Thank you for your comments, I'm feeling a lot more positive today.

I have suffered with PCOS for 14 years now (I'm 31) and have most of the symptoms, that the I burst into tears at my appointment when he told me he could fix this. He really was such a kind man who took the time to actually listen to me.
