To be so embarrassed?

I have just received TWO letters to my brand new renter house, addressed to me, from a well known payday lender. My flat mates and landlord saw this.

I borrowed a v small loan several months ago and repaid within the week. Was transferring savings across and repaid instantly, well before I needed to. Have never needed to use their service again but do get texts and emails.

I am absolutely infuriated that they have written to me advertising their services (ie non urgent communication) - my landlord etc has seen and I don’t know whether to thing up? It might appear as if I’m being blinded for repayments?

Totally mortified! What do I do/say? The letters are identical and literally say that I will get a discount if I ever borrow again. Ffs. Can I ask details to be removed in line j the gdpr?

Junk mail - just tell Him that it’s that if he asks

HarrietSchulenberg · 26/06/2018 00:10

You can ask to be removed from their mailingists, yes.

Re people seeing the letters; they were unsolicited junkmail that you had no control over. We all get crap like this so no-one would judge you.

When I was a student (a long, long time ago) my household had an ongoing battle with our friends' household and we used to sign each other up for tons of crap - the sort of offers that you got leaflets for in the Sunday papers. We were all deluged with SAGA catalogues, stepladder brochures, hearing aid packs and the like. The companies never gave up and I often wonder if our old addresses are still getting this stuff, nearly 30 years on.

I wouldn't bat an eyelid and would assume junkmail. But I don't think it's anything to be embarrassed about anyway

Aquamarine1029 · 26/06/2018 00:45

Who cares what they think? And they probably don't care at all. I feel you are massively over thinking this and worrying about absolutely nothing.

condepetie · 26/06/2018 00:52

Why's your landlord seeing your mail?

Snugglepumpkin · 26/06/2018 01:22

I've been sent stuff like that (not discount offers, but adverts about rip off loans) & I have never had a payday loan of any sort.

It's just junk mail, ignore it.
I doubt your landlord even remembers it never mind cares what it was as long as it wasn't a summons or bailiff sort of letter.

Sammyham88 · 26/06/2018 01:27

Ignore it, you're over thinking it, you're housemate and landlord probably haven't battered an eyelid over it. Guess you could call up the payday customer service and make sure you're removed from their mailing list but I'd save yourself the hassle and forget about it.

Copperbonnet · 26/06/2018 01:29

Personally I don’t think I’d recognise the name of any payday loans companies, so it might not have meant anything to your landlord.

It’s none of his business though, you need to remind yourself of that.
