to ask you how to make a neat ponytail?

My DD (8) has long wavy hair, they type that devolves into ringlets in weather like this. Mine's dead straight and I struggle to tame her wild locks. She's required to wear her hair up for school, so a ponytail is the obvious easy choice. Seems so simple, but I cannot seem to make a neat ponytail. Her head is riddled with those annoying hair ridges no matter how many times I brush it out before putting the elastic in!

Am I missing an obvious trick? Anyone with wavy hair have any tips for me? Please help!

You don’t have to French braid! My dd’s hair is similar and I centre part and plait each side from just above her ear to the nape of her neck which makes two ponytails and the top neater than it would be if just brushed into one pony

Dry wax spray and a smoothing brush. Only thing that works for me.

Every evening after bath when her hairs been washed I out DD's in a ponytail and then plait it. Not only neat, it keeps nits away.

Or you could try the hoover technique Grin Look on youtube, a dads favourite.

I'm lucky my 8yo likes a messy top knot!
When I have to do a ponytail, I do half up half down first and secure with one bobble, the neatly bring the bottom half up and secure with another bobble around the original pony. I seem to be able to do it neater when I just need to do half at a time.

Backcombing/dressing out brush! I have 3dds with super long hair, I brush back into a pony tail with a wet brush or tangle teezer, then spray it slightly (usually just water/leave in conditioner but spray gel can be a godsend sometimes) and while holiding the pony tail, smooth the top with the backcoming brush, not a bump to be seen! Think they’re good as the bristles are very close together so they’re quite stiff, the fine tailed ones are fab for doing partings too.
Oldest dds do prefer very messy high ponytails now though, much to my dismay!

DD (aged 4) has ridiculous hair. It's long, wavy and just gorgeous but she also has a double crown. I've found that ponytails and a normal plait trust fall out within hours so the only way of keeping it all in place is with French plaits, preferably two. I feel your pain, OP.

If I spend ages brushing her hair out when drying it I can get it lively and smooth, but it's back to waves again the next day.

I say enjoy it while it lasts before she dyes it and/or cuts it all off!

That's what I do as well / tried to explain. But with the hook thingies instead of a 'normal' elastic.

LadyFlumpalot · 25/06/2018 20:05

@Jammiebammie 😍😍 that hair!

MoreHairyThanScary · 25/06/2018 20:06

I use different hair brushes, I brush through with a standard brush then used a round more natural bristle brush to smooth into the pony tail, wetting also helps.

maria just read your version, I missed if the first time. But yes, this is the same as me, and I am definitely going to invest in some of those bungees!

Jammiebammie · 25/06/2018 20:17

Thanks @Ladyflumpalot - she’s already chopped it off for the little princess trust, that’s her grown it to donate again next week! It can be a bit of a nightmare sometimes lol

kirta

I hope they work for you:) My sisters and I use these but idk... I just hope that you (and the OP, who apparently ordered them) won't end up hating them / blaming me Wink I just know what works for us...
