To ask about having a baby in your 40s..

Quick back story. I'm 42, DH is 41. We have a 4 year old DS. We had a couple of early miscarriages before DS was born. Basically fell pregnant 3 times in one year.

Fast foward and we've been trying for another for the past 12 months. I've been checked and all fine, DH about to get checked. Biggest challenge is finding the time!

I'm starting to feel a little tired of the constant treadmill of trying and worrying that even if it happens for us what will life be like with a baby/toddler as I approach mid 40s

I know the odds aren't good and we knew that risk going into this. DH seems to think we just keep going, but I wonder if it isn't better to stop before I hit 43 early next year.

Would love to hear anyone elses stories about having a baby in your 40s.

I'm 46 and have several friends my age with babies and toddlers. We had our two youngest later, DH was 40 and we benefited because we're more financially settled, patient and the grandparents were retired so got to spend more time with them.

My friend had triplets at 44 (IVF, obviously) and I have another friend who fell pregnant quite by accident and gave birth at 47. Both women have energy to burn, fortunately!

First child at 36, second at 41 and love it. He’s now 5 and keeps me young. I had a miscarriage at 40 and was told it could be a problem. I felt time was limited so I bought some ovulation sticks from eBay (best £6 ever spent). I caught the second month of using them, which considering my husband worked away and was only home at weekends, was a pretty good result imop! 😃

I wouldn't give up trying just yet OP. I had a surprise third baby at 43. All was fine and I actually felt no different than with my two older DC. Both my grandmothers had their youngest children at the same age so not unusual in our family. Good luck!

Cousin had 5 kids from 39-46. All naturally conceived. My IVF consultant even said not all older women need IVF and If a woman is going to have issues they’ll have them regardless of age.

I had my one and only at 38....children keep you young...my cousin is my age (47) and he's a grandad....good luck!

I had my second son at 40 then lost a pregnancy in the second tri due to a chromosome condition, I was 42. I’m now 43 and we haven’t been able to fall pregnant since. I’ve made my peace with it now and suspect I won’t fell pregnant again.

Mr friend (47 next month) is 20 weeks pregnant with twins. Her other twins are nearly 16!
