Can anyone tell me how I can hand my notice in to a job I only started three months ago, and not completely piss them off?

They've spent a lot of time training me but I find the culture overbearing. I feel suffocated. I have a chance for another job but they will want a reference from my current job which makes things very awkward!

I feel :S how do I handle this?

Please accept this letter as notice of my resignation. I wish to terminate my employment on... Thank you for the training and support you have given me, however, I have come to realise that the role is not a good fit for me.

I am very grateful for the opportunity you gave me to work for xxxx company.

Be factual and to point. Don’t apologise or explain, it happens all the time and it better for them and you to know sooner rather than later

Reading back, maybe the “I am grateful” should come before the however

I just did this. I started a new job and i knew immediately that it was not the job for me. Actually it was a poorly thought out job and i have a lot of experience in tge industry so i knew it wouldn't work. I spoke to my direct manager in person - explaining my reasons for leaving, which included my new job offer that i may have taken regardless.
I thanked them for the opportunity, in person and in my resignation letter, and the niceties but i also explained clearly and without too much fuss why i didn't feel it was the right job for me. Probation periods work both ways, if the job's not right its not right.
