To stay out the sun during my job

I'm a lunch time supervisor. I work between 11.45-1.30. We take it in turns spending a week inside setting up and cleaning or outside supervising the children. AIBU to ask if I can stay indoors during the rest of the summer? I am a ginger and burn in shade in December! I've done this job for several years but it's really taking its toll on my skin. I use factor 50 and have recently started to wear a hat to protect my blistered scalp. I don't want to upset anyone at work. Nobody else seems to burn as easily as me Angry

You can ask, I'm sure plenty would happily be outside supervising the children rather than indoors!

YANBU, you are high risk in the sun, I'm sure some of the other supervisors would happily swap.

ask around. different people like different parts of the job.

PattiStanger · 24/06/2018 17:32

Why wouldn't you ask?

Halfblindbunny · 24/06/2018 17:34

You can ask, I bet people will bite your hand of to swap. If not though I would invest in a hat and very good suncream and station yourself beneath a tree.

Is this a recent thing? Our skin reaction to the elements can change over the years. Might be worth a visit to the GP if it's that bad, especially if you've been using SPF50 and its not helping.

If it's not a new thing, and you're ultra sensitive to the sun, wasn't a hat an option before?

Your employers MIGHT consider a change in practices, and do need to ensure you're assisted with that protection under H&S but you'd need to discuss it with them and look at options. Have a look at the HSE website for info on sun protection.
