If you are approachine from A and want to go to second exit C. Which lane would you get into at A?

There’s one like this near me. Both exits A and D have 3 lanes (so clearly should be in right lane in A to exit via D) but the road markings say you can be in middle or right lane to exit at D so loads of cutting up and under taking and near-misses occur.

They really need to make road markings better.

YorkieDorkie · 24/06/2018 20:13

Either lane as long as you stick to that lane entering the new dual carriageway.

What does the signage say?

YorkieDorkie · 24/06/2018 20:15

Ugh missed the sign update Hmm

Barbaro · 24/06/2018 20:17

You can take either.

Left lane at A to go to left lane at C.
Right lane at A to go to right lane at C.

Please don't do what people around here do which is choose the right and then switch to left before the exit without looking for other cars. That's how accidents happen.

Twombly · 24/06/2018 22:04

Twombly it's never right to think that carving someone up or sounding the horn at them is acceptable behaviour.

Quite. Which is why I told the OP not to do it. But if she follows some of the advice here, she will find that she is carving people up and they will, quite reasonably, hoot at her if they think she's unaware of them.

When did all this 12 o’clock carry on start?
It wasn’t the case when I learned to drive.
First exit left, second exit left, third exit right.
Does this go with the idea of not always stopping at a round about?

When did all this 12 o’clock carry on start?

Unless NI has different rules than the rest of the UK? Which would be kind of dumb and dangerous.

Sharkwithknees · 24/06/2018 23:24

Simon, what if there's 5, 6 exits?? Agree though that the 12 o clock rule is a guide. Also, why the he'll would you always need to stop at roundabouts? Hmm

overnightangel · 24/06/2018 23:33

“Unless NI has different rules than the rest of the UK? Which would be kind of dumb and dangerous.”

That’s a big can of worms ...... 😁👏🏻

This one is a nightmare near me
Which lane for the second exit?

SimonBridges · 24/06/2018 23:37

You need to stop to see if there is traffic coming. That’s how I was taught anyway.
I understand that these days people are taught to just pile along with a glance.

And if there are 5,6 or 7 exits then there will be markings on the road.

Sharkwithknees · 24/06/2018 23:42

You can often see well in advance if it's clear/approaching traffic, why would you need to stop? One of my pet hates when drivers stop and you can clearly see there's no approaching traffic anywhere near. If there's no stop sign, it's give way/common sense.

Move2WY · 24/06/2018 23:43

Either.

SimonBridges · 24/06/2018 23:44

Nothing here about 12 o’clock. www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/learning-to-drive/roundabouts/

Move2WY · 24/06/2018 23:44

You shouldn’t stop at a roundabout unless to give way to oncoming traffic from your right. It is a roundabout not a set of traffic lights. The purpose is to keep traffic moving, not to be treated as a stop junction.

Sharkwithknees · 24/06/2018 23:47

And I was agreeing that 12 o clock is taught as a guide and is not a rule.

But stop stopping at roundabouts ffs

BeautyBox · 25/06/2018 05:59

@Ollivander84 - right hand lane for 2nd exit left.

If it weren't for the road marking with the big arrow showing it's a left hand only lane I'd say left lane without indicating and indicate left once you pass the first exit. But the arrow clearly tells you that the left hand lane is first exit only.

Ollivander84 · 25/06/2018 07:43

Beauty - that's what I thought. But everyone says "oh no it says local, and left so that's for the first two exits"
The amount of accidents I've nearly had - the road sign doesn't correspond either!

Sirzy · 25/06/2018 07:48

This thread is quite scary how many drivers seemingly don’t know how to drive on a roundabout!

Not surprising though I live somewhere with lots of roundabouts and spend way too much time playing “guess what the idiot will do” Confused
