To use icing sugar in tea?

LaurenFromLondon · 24/06/2018 14:43

I'm desperate for a cuppa, got no sugar in the house and can't nip out to the corner shop because the baby is sleeping.

I've got some icing sugar in the cupboard, what do you think? 😂

I think you should go for it! Instantly dissolved! Done! Sugar is sugar, whatever form! Enjoy!

Essexgirlupnorth · 24/06/2018 14:44

It's just really finally ground it will be fine

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 24/06/2018 14:44

Of course you can use it, it's just sugar, but more finely ground down.

You need less of it though, because its so fine.

MyOtherUsernameisaPun · 24/06/2018 14:44

If you do, remember you'll need a lot less as it's much finer!

bananasandwicheseveryday · 24/06/2018 14:45

No. Icing sugar doesn't dissolve the way granulated, or even castor sugar do. I think it has something else in it to keep it powdery, rather than it sticking together.

KarinVogel · 24/06/2018 14:46

Id be interested to see how it turned out. I did this once and didn't like it - seemed 'cold' to me for some strange reason. It may well have been a weird psychological reaction so look forward to the taste test.

Shamalamalam · 24/06/2018 14:46

I quite often use icing sugar in tea if we’ve run out of normal sugar. Tastes the same and dissolves fine.

DaphneDiligaf · 24/06/2018 14:47

Oh go on try it and let us know if it works please.

Mollie85 · 24/06/2018 14:48

I think there is something in icing sugar which won’t make it as easily dissolvable - but I could be wrong Smile

Have you no caster sugar? Grin

BlackForestCake · 24/06/2018 14:49

Of course you can. Just don’t make a habit of it as icing sugar is much more expensive than granulated.

BlackForestCake · 24/06/2018 14:50

Icing sugar dissolves fine when you’re making icing! Why would it not dissolve?

bananasandwicheseveryday · 24/06/2018 14:53

It will not dissolve well, because it usually contains an 'anti-caking'agent - often cornflour, to stop it going lumpy. So whilst the sugar itself will dissolve, the codnflour/starch won't and may also affect the flavour.

Batfurger · 24/06/2018 14:54

Grim. How about no sugar?

CheeseWithCheeseOnTheSide · 24/06/2018 14:55

I've used agave syrup or golden syrup. I'd not use icing sugar because I think there's some kind of anti caking ingredient in it.

LaurenFromLondon · 24/06/2018 15:01

Those of you who say it won't dissolve well, have you tried it?

I just made the tea, and although I can clearly taste it's icing sugar, it's dissolved and taste alright when you're desperate for a cuppa!

Try no sugar. Once you are usesld to it you won't look back!

bsbabas · 24/06/2018 16:22

Do you have any honey? Even better!

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 24/06/2018 16:24

Try no sugar in your tea and a Mars Bar on the side. That’s how I kicked my sugar-in-tea habit. You’re welcome Wink

DumbSonOfABitch · 24/06/2018 16:31

Tea with any sugar tastes disgustingGrin

hungryhippie · 24/06/2018 16:31

My son has had it when we had no sugar. It contains cornstarch and I dont really fancy flour in my tea.

sueelleker · 24/06/2018 20:55

My husband likes honey in his green tea.
