Do you think I'm chubby?

I've lost a wee bit of weight recently (I think - I no longer weigh myself). Haven't gone down a size but my muffin top is definitely disappearing. Anyway, I'm 5'8" and wear a size 14 top and bottom - sometimes a 12 in a top. Yesterday I went out and thought I was looking ok but when I caught sight of myself in a bathroom mirror I just thought I looked so fat. I am quite in proportion - was always pear shaped but boobs have caught up with the hips now. I never used to put weight on round the middle but have for the last few years . I just feel like a fat pie!

An h & m 14 isn't a proper 14 though! Their clothes are tiny and I think they've been pulled up for it.

Herja you look lovely in that dress. Its white and gold, right? Wink

I think it's more about whether you honestly look and feel good ti yourself and feel healthy.

Men might not diet as much but lots of them do train / exercise . That can be a much better way of getting in shape for both sexes although eating sensibly does matter.

brizzledrizzle · 24/06/2018 12:39

If you are a size 12/14 then you aren't chubby at your height.

Leannah5 · 24/06/2018 12:44

@brizzledrizzle how can you know that though? I'm the same height and a size 10. If I went up to a 12 I might, and a 12/14 I would definitely be overweight/chubby. It's so subjective and dependent on the person.

EmmaC78 · 24/06/2018 12:45

Yazoop - I would say that model does look chubby. She has a great figure but definately on the chubby side.

Jux · 24/06/2018 12:47

I bet that in 5 years' time, if you saw a photo of yourself from now, you'd think "what on earth was I worrying about? I looked great back then!".

The best way to look amazing is to believe in yourself. High confidence is attractive.

Yazoop · 24/06/2018 12:54

EmmaC wow, well I beg to differ! I think she's a fantastic figure

Yazoop · 24/06/2018 12:54

*got a fantastic figure

Yazoop · 24/06/2018 12:55

Competent agree with @jux. We can be our own worst enemies sometimes x

Yazoop · 24/06/2018 12:55

Completely! Damn autocorrect Grin

EmmaC78 · 24/06/2018 12:58

Fantastic figure yes. But still chubby. Doesn't mean she doesn't have a nice figure.

Yazoop · 24/06/2018 13:00

Not at all, I just don't see much chub in this case!

JaceLancs · 24/06/2018 13:06

I just tried the half height to waist thing
At 5’4” my waist should be no more than 32 it’s actually 29!
I’m still heavier than I should be or want to be just I’ve always had a small waist - really struggle to get jeans that don’t gape massively at the back so just buy jeggings now - wearing size 12 at moment but they are too big on waist but I need it for my bum n thighs

Thehop · 24/06/2018 13:07

I’m a size 20 so think you’re absolutely fine 😂

Mominatrix · 24/06/2018 13:15

I think that half height to waist thing is really not appropriate for women. It is crudely OK think for men, but really not very good for premenopausal women whose shape is different to the average man.

For me, at 5'2", this measurement would say that I would be OK with a 31 inch waist. No, it would not. With a 31 inch waist, I would be overweight.

LightAsTheBreeze · 24/06/2018 13:26

Well I am size 14 and my new BMI is 20.6 or old is 21.4 so hardly chubby

Jaimx86 · 24/06/2018 13:31

Yazoop, another picture of the model in a bikini for that campaign shows the model looking bigger, so I
don’t think that we can use that image to represent size 14. Her unfiltered Instagram pics also give another different view of her body.
The model is 5’10 - I think she might be US size 14.

Birdsgottafly · 24/06/2018 13:34

Yazoop, the model is carry too much body fat. She looks well and it's not going to impact on her health. But in twenty years time, that weight will look very different.

Op, as said, you will look back in ten years and realise how good you looked and how cheap it was to look good.

I'm fully through the Menopause and have lost two and a half stone and i'm looking a bit crepey because of it (and spending out to get rid of it).

If you want to lose the weight, do it pre Menopause.

Birdsgottafly · 24/06/2018 13:39

The model is 5’10 - I think she might be US size 14."

She is also 29, her profile says size 10/12, so a UK size 14. She either had to lose weight or gain, to get work, so she chose to gain.

mistermagpie · 24/06/2018 13:42

I'm 5 foot 8 and weigh 9 stone, I'm like you gorgon and just feel and look better at the bottom end of the 'healthy spectrum'. Saying that, I was about 13 stone after the birth of my first DS (massively ate for two during that pregnancy!) and people were really surprised when I told them I was a 14-16 in jeans. I think if you're taller you can carry a bit of weight more forgivingly. It really depends on shape though, I have no boobs or bum whatever I weigh so automatically look 'athletic' even when I'm absolutely not!

I'm 5ft 7 and weigh 11st 12lbs. I have a narrow frame but am morphing into a definite apple shape thanks to the menopause. Have just tried the string test and it doesn't meet by 3". So I'm quite overweight it seems Sad

Adambarlow · 24/06/2018 14:54

Yeah

FizzyGreenWater · 24/06/2018 15:09

Off the point but I honestly cannot fathom why people even bother to use clothes sizings (ie 10, 12 ,14) to describe what size they are any more.

It means less than nothing.

My clothes range from size 8 -16. Honestly. I have about three tops that fit me with the same level of 'bagginess' from White Stuff. They're sized 10, 12 and 14.

It just means nothing!

bsbabas · 24/06/2018 16:18

I'm 5'4" and have 40/D chest and wear size 14/16 skirts depends wear I buy them I hate my body but I don't sweat it anymore just wear nice flattering pretty clothes

OneStepSideways · 24/06/2018 19:35

It depends on your bone structure. I know women who wear a size 12 and aren't chubby at all, they just have wide hips or work out a lot so have well developed muscles.

Taller women usually need bigger sizes, as our bone structure is in proportion with our height.
