To wonder how you'll spend summer holidays

As in the 6 weeks summer holidays with your children (I'm not assuming you all have 6 weeks off).

OP posts:

DC are 6 and 3 and DC1 has 5 weeks off. We have 10 days camping in Cornwall at the start and 5 days in a cottage in Northumberland at the end, before DC2 starts school. DH and I both have 1 day a week off each. DC2 will go to nursery the other 3 days, DC1 has 1 week of forest school and 2 weeks in holiday club at DC2 nursery. Hoping for a couple of nights with grandparents and at least a couple of playdate swaps with school friends too.

I am off the second week of the holidays and DS and I are going abroad.

I'm working the rest of it but I only work Monday-Thursday so will have long weekends with DS. Hoping we will have nice weather and we'll do some day trips.

DS will be going to various family members while I am at work and a couple of days at summer sports camp with a school friend. He also goes on holiday for a week with his dad (myself and his dad are divorced).

It is my birthday at the end of the holidays and my parents are kindly having DS one weekend so I can go for a few drinks and dinner with friends.

DS has 8 weeks off. I work 3 days. On the 2 days I have off we are going to have some nice days out, see friends and have some relaxed days at home as well. I can’t wait!
On my work days he’s doing 3 weeks of school holiday club, a week of forest school and 4 weeks of seeing grandparents.
We’re having 3 long weekends away- Centreparcs at the beginning of the holidays, London in the middle and Cotswolds at the end.

I have the school holidays off which is handy! Lots of play dates with friends and days out! Up to Scotland for a week to visit family at the end of August as my grandma is turning 80 so having a big family gathering and hopefully a weekend away right at the end! DD starts reception but will be coming back to preschool for a few days with me as she doesn't start until mid sept.

Singlebutmarried · 24/06/2018 20:56

first week of the hols we’re off to a friend’s holiday house on the coast with them and their DCs.

Last week of hols GPs are taking DD away do me n DH are off on a grown up holiday.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 24/06/2018 20:57

Dd doesn't want to go on holiday this year due to health issues

The boys aren't fussed so we are going to do some day trips and ds1 will be working Grin

They are between 15 and 19 so they will entertain themselves...though i think they may get bored

We did go away at easter for a few days...and will go in October for a night or two.

Locasta · 24/06/2018 21:01

This is the first year we have the full summer to do as we please. I don't work school holidays. The first 2 weeks we're in Mexico, home for a week then I'm off to Tsilivi to see my sister for a week. The last 4 weeks will be spent pottering in the garden and doing whatever I please.

Week 1 - DP and I both working so DC in sports camp

Week 2 - all at home. 2 family birthdays so DS will have a party - not yet booked - and have tickets to the Harry Potter studio tour. DC don't know yet and it's killing me to not tell them Grin

Week 3 - DC at different sports camp

Week 4 - we have a cottage on the beach in Somerset. Hoping Summer weather sticks around for it.

Week 5 - DP back at work so just me and the DC. Have a couple things booked - Dippy at the BMAG and Matilda the musical for DD and I. Will also have a day or two with friends. Leaving a couple of days to chill and uniform shop for anything we don't get in week 2. This will almost certainly include school shoes for DD.

Week 6 - same sports camp as week 1 but different activity.

Then there are 2 inset days before they go back which I so far have no idea how we are covering Confused. But there are also parents on the school FB page that don't even know the holiday dates Shock so in comparison I feel very organised...and exhausted.

youdialwetile · 24/06/2018 21:21

10-11 weeks to fill here! 1 week oldest is at sleep-away camp, younger 2 will tag along after me getting ready for family holiday. Then 4 weeks on holiday (DH joins us for 2 weeks) staying with family some of the time. Older 2 have one week at day camp in Aug. We might get in a week camping late Aug. DH and I try to work opposite schedules so no childcare needed, plus I will work some hours on vacation - I can video-conference with clients. Roll on Sept!

Trialsmum · 24/06/2018 21:30

I work in special education so I’m off for the whole 6 weeks. Ds (9) will ride his trials motorbike, or on the back of his dad’s road bike, or his mountain bike or his trials push bike or his hoverboard... you get the idea, there will be wheels involved. DH is going to try to take every Friday off do we can go away in our camper van thurs night -sun (riding motorbikes) and I’m going to try to do something different on Mondays and Tuesdays.

We live near the beach so that’s an easy day out and we have a decent park too with a splash park, or we can head down the coast for a change of scenery. We can also swim for free. Ds and his cousin are doing the RNLI open water swimming thing so that’s a day put in the Lake District and we’re planning some days out with his best mates and a day mountain boarding with another mate.

Karate and football are still on so that’s the evenings sorted and he’s doing a course of snowboarding lessons at Chill Factor.

He’s going on holiday with his grandparents and cousins in the middle of the holidays so I’ll be a bit lost for that week but it’ll be awesome for him!

Hmm I’m not sure 6 weeks are enough tbh 😕

Titsywoo · 24/06/2018 21:30

6 weeks for us. The first and second weeks I am working on the Monday and Tuesday so we'll fill the days in between with days out and seeing friends. Then we are camping for 3 nights. A week after that we are going to a Haven park for 5 nights. Then DD is going to work at my parents hotel for a week. When she gets back we are hoping to go away for a week - nothing booked, just will get a last minute deal. I love the summer holidays!

BlitheringIdiots · 24/06/2018 21:35

At work. DS at work with me. Life or a working mum with senior school age child.

DS is off for 7.5 weeks. We’ve already had our holiday this year, although DH and I have 2.5 weeks off between us, mostly Thursdays and Fridays spread throughout the holidays. Thankfully DS’s school have an amazing holiday club with lots of activities and days out which he loves. He will also go to stay with my parents for a week at the start and a week at the end of the holidays.

reluctantbrit · 24/06/2018 21:45

In the past years it was mostly holiday club for the days I work, two weeks family holiday and some year one week either a full week riding or theatre camp.

This year, DD will have finished Y 6, she will be off with the Scouts for 1 week, two weeks part-time holiday club and two weeks family holiday. The rest is a week with 2 days on her own while DH works from home as preparations what to do in future holidays when she is at secondary.

Maelstrop · 24/06/2018 21:49

No dc!

I’m doing a bonkers fitness/health regime.
Garden needs decimating, it’s insanely overgrown.
I want to swim most days and have just discovered a series of lakes where I can take my dog with me! Can’t wait!
