To think Sketchers should give me my money back!?

If the shoes are not fit for purpose - because they fucking stink!?!

Bought a pair of Go Walk to wear to work (pastoral role in secondary school, lots of running and dress code means no trainers etc. so thought they'd be ideal) and whilst I admit they're super comfy they stink after about 3 wears! Never had a foot odor problem and all my other shoes are fine, even beach trainers that get soaked and are frequently worn with no socks etc.

DH googled - yes, it's that bad! 😳 (DD, 5, says they smell like the cat weed in them... She has a point..!) - and it's a common complaint with these shoes. Forums full of wearers saying thank God, thought it was just me, etc. I'm fuming. So are my shoes. Noxious fuming.

I bought them for work. I cannot reak at work. Duh. Valid complaint and refund request or AIBU? Over to you, Mumsnet...

You need to kill the bacteria in the shoes too. Get a decent shoe spray. 40° wash won't always help.

Spraying with vodka will do the trick! Works out cheaper than shoe spray! Works a treat too. hic!

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 23/06/2018 16:50

I am prone to hot feet and my sketchers don’t smell (I don’t think).

TornFromTheInside · 23/06/2018 16:51

@TestingTestigWonTooFree - we can smell 'em from 'ere! My eyes are watering just typing this!

LockedOutOfMN · 23/06/2018 16:54

I wear Go Walks for almost 12 hours a day, (sometimes longer), 5 days a week, in very hot school, on my feet all day (we're not allowed to sit down in class and at lunchtime etc. I'm on duty or running around finding students or colleagues for one thing or another, I also never get a seat on the bus), with tights in winter and invisible pop socky liner things in summer (which tend to pop off, so I have bare feet in the shoe). Never had a problem with smelly feet or shoes.

I'd get some washable inner soles, OP, and maybe some foot spray?

TornFromTheInside · 23/06/2018 17:06

Also, if you keep your shoes in a dark cupboard this can help bacteria to grow, along with shoes being slightly damp from sweat. Try to make sure you get them 100% dry and avoid dark places. But most of all, kill the bacteria.

It's not a personal hygiene issue, it's just a set of conditions that might not exist for another person.

Redboxonwheels · 23/06/2018 17:09

I’m not wasting my vodka on them!
Sketchers are rank. My feet aren’t.
End of.

BitchyInnerMonologue · 23/06/2018 17:12

I got these from Amazon for my Sketchers.

I wear Go Walk but would never wear them without socks. Do people actually do thatShock

Yogagirl123 · 23/06/2018 17:29

I only wear Skechers, never had a problem with them smelling. I do wear socks with mine.

19lottie82 · 23/06/2018 17:31

ANY trainers that you wear without socks are going to stink, and that’s a fact because they’re going to absorb sweat. It’s nothing to do with having stinky feet.

You need to wear some Trainer socks with them.

falang · 23/06/2018 17:35

The old Skechers were fine without socks. It's when they changed the inners that they became smelly. I hate wearing trainer socks so have given up on Skechers which is a shame because they are the most comfortable shoes in the world.

ChristinaMarlowe · 23/06/2018 17:39

Thanks for replies! As previously stated, never wear on bare feet, never for more than 1-2 days in a row and never had this any other shoes - Pretty sure that after apx. 300 pairs of shoes in all manner of styles and price ranges that it's the shoe not the foot! Hence not buying inner soles or foot spray. The forums were full of customers going mad because it had only been these shoes that did it.

Vodka sounds good... But if it's the shoe not a standard sweaty feet/athletes foot/body chemistry thing then is there any point?!

19lottie82 and others saying it would happen with any shoe - I appreciate your help but please read the full post /thread...

Ah falang. I fear that's my best bet. What a waste though!

Still going to try the vodka.... Bike

That look great, Bitchy, do they make a difference? Did your Sketchers pong prior to using them?

Just had a look at the 'Think' website. They seem to have an error on the their sale page and a pair of shoes are £0.00.

I don't like them, but somebody might.

Yes, the vodka is for the shoes, not your feet. Sweat contained in the shoe will harbour bacteria, and if you then put the shoes in a dark place, it will help the bacteria to thrive. Dark and damp are heaven for bacteria.

If you kill the bacteria in the shoes / trainers it will massively help. It's been pretty warm recently, and it might be a combination of that, plus a new shoe material that's not letting your feet breath and harbouring sweat (perfectly normal).

BitchyInnerMonologue · 23/06/2018 22:44

They had a sort of chemical smell; I just assumed that it was a "new" smell IYSWIM?
However, I have issues with my feet anyway (very close together toes) so always wear socks unless it's with sandals. These are comfy, low and don't shrink in the wash (unless you're dozy and tumble dry them).

GenericHamster · 23/06/2018 23:00

I had a pair of GoWalk that stank after one single long walk at Center Parcs. Waited til the smell went then sold them :D

I think it's the shoe, not the foot.
