It’s my 5 year olds first sports day however the assembly is the week before I already too time off for that
Dh has taken all his leave to cover the summer and the childminder haveing a funeral in two weeks

I don’t have much leave because I am pt and started half way through the year

So Aibu to send my 18 year old to go and watch her Blush

I think they just want somone they know cheering them on

I have fond memories of going to my brothers - similar age gap. In fact i went to a few. I even took part in the mother’s race. School was welcoming too.

I remember my 18yo sister coming to a school event when I was 9 and it was the single most exciting things that ever happened, just on the basis of her being there. My mum didn't take that personally 😆

kitkatsky · 23/06/2018 08:50

I used to go to watch my sister at same age

TellerTuesday4EVA · 23/06/2018 08:52

I think that's absolutely fine, as long as they have somebody there it's fine.

I only work 2 days a week, deliberately choose to keep this job & not look for more hours when DD started school so that I can be around for the school run & able to attend sports days, assemblies etc yet EVERY SINGLE THING so far that requires parents to attend had fallen on one of my working days!! Because I only work 2 days I can't take time off & it sucks!! Luckily I have DM around who will go in place & DD hasn't been bothered so far.

Cheto · 23/06/2018 08:55

I think that's lovely

shiklah · 23/06/2018 09:01

YANBU but warn him that he wins the dads race he'll be in trouble Grin

Tinkobell · 23/06/2018 09:16

Not at all, it's a great idea!

SheldonandPenny · 23/06/2018 09:30

Absolutely fine. Live Shikla 's comment. If there's a dad's race get him to go for it 😁

Katedotness1963 · 23/06/2018 09:44

I used to go to my youngest brothers school stuff at that age because our parents couldn't be bothered.

ToastyFingers · 23/06/2018 10:42

I think its a lovely thing to do, I did stuff like this with my younger sister and we're really close now.

Yogafailure · 23/06/2018 11:46

Oh God, that reminds me of when my then 15 year old DD won the ladies ( it wasn't mums) race a few years ago....I thought there was going to be a riot. So many yummy mummies trying to congratulate her through gritted teeth 😂

Flaminglingos · 23/06/2018 11:56

I think it's perfectly fine and I did it for my sister when my mum was too ill to go and watch her. I also cheer on the kids in my dc class whose parents can't make sports day. The smiles on their little faces cheers me up, it's so sweet. One of them gave me a hug and said 'thank you Mrs. Flaminglingos. I was scared about my mum not being here but I'm not now.
I may have had a tear in my eye!
