To ask this lady to turn her light off?

Help - I need some real time MN advice. I’m currently in hospital. They have finished the last round of checks, and put all the lights out. Except the lady next to me has said she wants to read, and has got the light in her cubicle on. It’s making my cubicle really bright and I can’t sleep. What shall I do? It’s 11.30 pm, so not exactly early. Is there a curfew on this type of thing?

Can't you just pull the curtain across a bit (the curtain that divides your cubicles)...just enough to block out the light so you can sleep and she can still read in her cubicle?

Ask someone to bring you in an eye mask?

People are just generally oblivious. When we were on the baby section of the children's ward the nurses started lowering the lights around 8pm. All the babies were sleeping but there was one bed with every single light blaring. Was like a search light in the ward.

Ask the nurses to help

Yes, those light blocking curtains.. If only. Most of them are the thickness of a duvet cover.

I think those calling the woman selfish for having her light on are assuming a lot. I know when I am in pain bad enough to stop me sleeping (happens a lot, happening now) I need something to distract me; maybe tjis is the case here.

Speak to a nurse and ask her to turn the light out when the woman falls asleep. Ask someone to bring you an eye mask for tomorrow (tonight).

Got to admit, I'd have my light on and read and not even think it was impacting other people. If I were nervous about something, which is a high probability, I'd feel horrible just sitting on the dark.

Having said this, I'd hate to think I was having a negative impact on the ladies in my room. I'd be mortified. But it just wouldn't occur to me as it was my light.

These personal bedlights have two settings, one not as intense as the other. That might be the answer.

Hope you're feeling better soon 💐

How did you get on, op?
