"Mixed gender" sports teams

Primary school has decided to mix the school sports teams from next year. Currently there are seperate ones for girls and boys, e.g. cricket, football and the like.

AIBU to wonder why when it's been like this for years and seems to work OK? they are starting to call it 'gender' as well...

I think it sounds like a good idea.

That's exactly it forgiveness
Forget testosterone levels and the lack of puberty and anecdotes about how in schools it's the girls that are better or bigger than the boys etc

Those people have clearly never had a dd1 come home and tell them how no one passes the ball to them or how no one picks them for the team etc

Has never seen how boys are laughed at when "ha ha beaten by a girl" etc

Girls will never get the chance to realise their abilities and find what they enjoy in mixed classes.

We are battling things way beyond a testosterone level. And decades of these mixed classes have failed to change that so carrying on under the name of being inclusive doesn't serve to help anyone .

We used to have mixed sex sports at my school in the 80s, through both infants and juniors. It was fine in terms ability for the most part, however the boys would get far more coaching and attention than the girls, they would also be given all the prime spots, so for example, if we were playing rounders, we almost always had a boy pitch. By the end of juniors (so I guess about 10 years old?) there were clear differences starting to develope in strength etc.

Overall it became pretty demoralising for the girls.
