To not worry about a mouse??

iloveruby · 22/06/2018 00:59

Was sitting watching TV and a little mouse just wandered across my living room floor, completely relaxed and not at all worried about being seen. A few minutes later and it actually walked up to and sniffed my dogs nose.......(so clearly either a baby or a stupid mouse).

AIBU to not worry and just share my house with it or do I need to get rid of it?

As cute as they are, where you have one mouse you have a whole family, if not now then soon. Snap traps are quick, cheap and efficient. Or I can lend you my young cat, whose nickname is "Black Death"... he's good with rodents.

HirplesWithHaggis · 22/06/2018 01:08

Plus, mice don't have bladders, so constantly leak urine. Everywhere they go. And they go everywhere...

ferrier · 22/06/2018 01:12

I lived with a mouse for about six months while we were having building work done. I became quite attached to him. He used to come out once the kids had gone to bed and everything was quiet and still. We did eventually put poison down for him when the house was finished Sad

Badcat666 · 22/06/2018 01:12

They do like to nibble on wiring.... and one day you wake up and spend 16 hours trying to find the fault... rocks back and forth at memory

Mine avoided all snap traps so had to end up with bait :( didn't want to go down that route but the little shit gave me no choice...

LankinMcElf · 22/06/2018 01:23

Get rid! It’s not fucking Beatrix fucking Potter!
They are rodents, pests, and I guarantee the whole family are waiting to move in!
Also, what’s your dog doing kissing the fucker?
Get a cat!
Mice should NOT be allowed to take over!
Apologies for all the swearing but seriously, get rid.

MikeUniformMike · 22/06/2018 01:28

Oh shit I had a weird problem with my wiring. Mice are ok, they're cute but rats are scary. Get a terrier.

Stompythedinosaur · 22/06/2018 01:30

Mice have bladders. They urinate frequently compared to humans, but it is a myth that they dribble urine with every step.

LankinMcElf · 22/06/2018 01:41

Mice just scamper about your house pissing as they go and squeezing out little turds at an alarming rate. They stop only to eat to refuel to continue the whole shit/piss process

HirplesWithHaggis · 22/06/2018 14:24

You are correct, Stompy, as I should know from looking after school mice many years ago. Blush

bsbabas · 22/06/2018 16:15

Catch and release far away

dangermouseisace · 22/06/2018 16:59

No, you have to get rid. There is probably more than one, or if not there soon will be.

They piss everywhere, and sink.

They will get to your food and eat it. They can eat through everything...plastic, wood, cereal boxes. Bread wrappers. Cupboards. They will poo over all your food. They can seemingly defy gravity to get into places you thought inaccessible.

I’m vegan, and love animals but we had mice and I ended up having to kill them, as the humane traps were useless.

dangermouseisace · 22/06/2018 16:59

Stink not sink

KTD27 · 22/06/2018 17:09

You won’t worry - until your housemate wakes up with one on her head in the middle of the night. Actually scarred for life.
GET RID

We used to have micr in the house we just moved from. We’d get them every year. They comeback to breed where they were born. They can climb up all of your furniture, will pee and poop anywhere they want and breed many little babies. When we moved we found they’d been on the wardrobes, the dresser in the dining room, on the units in the kitchen etc etc. We even found droppings inside the glass casing on the kitchen lights which meant a they were obviously in the ceiling. If you get humane traps you have to take them a certain distance from your house or they’ll come back. Poison is good but they basically dehydrate to death. We had plug-ins which are supposed to send out a sound only rodents can hear but they weren’t great but then weren’t too expensive. If your house is a pre-fab they’ll love it. They also like the back of fridges/freezers where it’s nice and warm. Good luck with your mouse! 🐁

MeMyShelfandIkea · 22/06/2018 17:38

They'll get in your food cupboards and you'll find little nibbly bites out of your packets. They also chew wiring which could be dangerous as it might cause a fire. And my god if they get in the loft - the sound amplifies and it sounds like a herd of elephants stomping around when you're trying to sleep. Super cute they may be, but you absolutely need to get rid.

Bigfathairyones · 22/06/2018 17:42

Erm, mice run around the walls and rats run across the middle of a room....make sure it’s not a baby rat!

JamPasty · 22/06/2018 17:43

I like rodents. With that caveat, you don't want the little buggers loose in the house because they get in EVERYTHING. Up the backs of cabinets, over the kitchen surfaces, into the flour - not nice! You need to look at where the walls meet the floors, and where any pipes etc enter the house, and block up every last hole, no matter how minuscule, with wire wool or cement etc.

GreenTulips · 22/06/2018 17:46

Friends DD had horrible skin condition picked up from mice in the house and bing bare foot

possumgoddess · 22/06/2018 17:48

I don't mind mice in the least - in the right place, but as others have said you never have just one ( unless you have stupid cats and they bring in a field mouse....) So you really need to check for others and get rid of them. Sadly.

54321go · 22/06/2018 17:56

I was told that if you have mice, the good news is that you probably don't have rats. Unfortunately that is the end of the good news.
My (wild) mice keep me company while I am on MN.
Poisoning them, they stink as they decompose under the floorboards or anywhere inaccessible.

GreenRut · 22/06/2018 19:02

54321 I believed that until I had a rat problem recently and nervously mused to the rat killer bloke "at least I know I dont have mice". He immediately disabused me of this and told me his next appointment was to a house where he was helping them control problems with both 🤮🤮

Buglife · 22/06/2018 19:10

I wasn’t too fussed when I saw a mouse in my house, had never had them in my life so naively thought it was one mouse, not a huge problem. Then a month later I kept seeing them scuttling out of the corner of my eye and every day there was a scattering of mouse poo on my kitchen worktops... I had snappy traps down the next day and caught 6 of them in a week. I found in our shoe cupboard loads of shredded wrapping paper and they’d eaten bits out of half our fucking shoes and filled them with dried pasta and shat in them. So we’ve had those plug in things since and never seen one. I also put peppermint oil down in that cupboard every now and then as I’m sure that’s where they got in/lived.

54321go · 22/06/2018 19:11

Oh well, just have to keep my fingers crossed then!

gamerchick · 22/06/2018 19:13

n. A few minutes later and it actually walked up to and sniffed my dogs nose.......(so clearly either a baby or a stupid mouse)

Or infected with toxoplasmosis.

Up to you OP but you may be overun with the buggers in a few weeks.

Pebbles16 · 22/06/2018 20:10

They are vile. Please get rid
