I know this is not an aibu post but....I can't stop eating! I have eaten so much over the past few days! I have nearly consumed 4000 calories today. I am very tired and also get highly anxious. Can anyone suggest any appetite suppressants??!

Just do something else as soon as you see yourself reaching for food. Literally pick up or do anything else like clean something tidy something have a bath etc and stick to 3 round meals a day for the moment no snacks and don't do the food shopping alone. My only tips from a fellow over eater.

StaplesCorner · 21/06/2018 21:50

How long have you felt like this OP - are you a normal weight?

Singlenotsingle · 21/06/2018 21:52

You need the motivation. It's hard without support. The only thing that helps me is doing it with a group, otherwise I lose my mojo. What puts you off? The idea of being weighed is what puts me off, but if you really, really want to lose weight, it's gotta be done. Be brave. Slimming World works for me but there's loads of slimming groups now.

Me too!!! Following with interest

TheUnknowner · 21/06/2018 21:58

Water...seriously

UpstartCrow · 21/06/2018 21:58

Isn't it strange - when I'm stressed I can't eat even when I need to. Is your GP sympathetic? Counselling might help.
If you understand the thought process that leads from anxiety to eating, you can learn to intervene and redirect your behaviour.

wegweiser · 21/06/2018 22:03

Me too and it’s really bad at the moment!

Tattybear16 · 21/06/2018 22:06

No, but you need to make an appointment with your gp to get your thyroid level checked, anxious, tired and hungry all the time are classic under active thyroid symptoms

Nandocushion · 21/06/2018 22:12

Hi OP - I overeat like crazy when I am overtired, apparently in a misguided effort to get more energy from food. I'd work on rest first and see if that helps.

Snugglepiggy · 21/06/2018 22:12

I get this when I'm over tired and stressed.I even have to get up in the night to eat sometimes. My stomach is literally growling with hunger. This may sound a bit daft but I've found what helps is not the quantity I eat that satisfies me, but the quality. So if I eat slow release energy foods ie porridge, brown rice, sweet potatoes ,oatcakes etc I'm far better. If I go for sugary and other carby foods like cakes, toast and jam -which I can crave -within a short time I'm starving again.I'm naturally slim and have a very active lifestyle and physical job so in some ways I guess I'm lucky that I don't pile weight on.But I actually get fed up of feeling hungry /eating.I'm away from home tonight and brought my emergency oatcakes with me .Would also like to hear anyone else's ideas because it is frustrating.Agree with PP re water. But I drink lots too.

GaspingGekko · 21/06/2018 22:19

I find two things help me. Eating something with a strong after taste - like cheese and onion crisps - when the flavour lingers it feels like I've just eaten, even if it was a while ago. And brushing my teeth.
Works when I'm a bit hungry. Not sure how effective they would be for this level of hungry.

agnurse · 21/06/2018 22:20

The first step would be to see your regular provider. You might also consider joining Overeaters Anonymous. It's a 12-step program similar to AA.

I find that not having sweet treats around is helpful. You might consider going shopping and purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables and small portions of mixed nuts. You can also toss out the junk food. This is very helpful in creating healthy eating patterns.

AntipodeanOpalEye · 22/06/2018 09:16

Is so easy to overeat on carbs and sugar as you can eat and eat and never feel satiated. Much harder to do on a steak with salad or butters sautéed veggies.

It's nothing to do with willpower when your feeding your bodies carb/sugar cravings. Some people are insulin restraint and have deranged metabolisms. Lots of people can moderate carb cravings but some people just can't for various reasons.

A Ketogenic diet is the only thing that is gradually reversing my own insulin resistant deranged metabolism. We are all different, if you've tried everything else with no luck in stopping cravings.

DuchyDuke · 22/06/2018 10:24

Anxiety and hunger can be signs of thyroid issues. Go to the GP and get it checked out.

pinkeggs · 22/06/2018 16:15

Thanks for your responses everyone. I have had a better day but I'm still at work so things could take a turn when I get home.

I find antihistamines make me eat everything in sight. The summer is terrible for me because of them. Took me a few years to figure it out.

Bubblysqueak · 22/06/2018 17:10

You need the paul McKenna I can make you thin app. It is amazing and I was able to sit in front of a huge buffet and not fancy anything!

StaplesCorner · 22/06/2018 20:47

LovelyBath77 · 22/06/2018 20:50

Exercise can help- it does something to leptin, which controls hunger. also is a distraction.

LovelyBath77 · 22/06/2018 20:50

and helps with anxiety

bsbabas · 22/06/2018 23:45
