Chicken pox?

Posting here for traffic!

Does this rash look like chicken pox? It’s on my DS arms and legs only, they appeared late afternoon today, they don’t appear to be itchy or bothering him but he did just scratch his arm at typing this lol

Yes it does - by morning you it should be unambiguous.

Angelicinnocent · 21/06/2018 20:47

I'm afraid so. Get the calamine lotion in and remember, no ibuprofen.

RiceBurner · 21/06/2018 20:47

Don't think so - chickenpox gives little raised 'blisters'? But my kids are late twenties now so it's been a long time since I saw chickenpox and I am not a medically qualified person!

Hopefully, someone else will know. But I would think not CP. (What else? No idea! Google for pix?)

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 21/06/2018 20:48

Yes that does look poxy - my youngest has it at the moment, it started with one on his chest and he's now covered 36 hours later. Poxclin is good!

chipsandgin · 21/06/2018 20:48

Could be - but do the glass test just in case & if it does turn out to be chicken pox then no ibruprofen based medicines. Was there one spot that appeared before the others (with mine I remember one appears first & then is the ‘queen’ spot that tends to be the one that leaves the scar)? Also as a caveat - am just a mum of two who’ve both had it - not a medical professional!

ArfArfBarf · 21/06/2018 20:54

Are they anywhere else? I’d say it would be unusual to have that many on only the arms and legs at the beginning of chicken pox. Could it be hand foot and mouth?

unintentionalthreadkiller · 21/06/2018 20:59

I don't think so or at least now how my kids started.

Tried the glass trick and it’s all good, they disappear when pressure is applied.

I did think it could be hand foot and mouth, but from the images on google, they look more blister like.

I will see what he’s like in the morning I suppose and hope for the best, I just don’t want my 10 week old to catch it as she’s already not feeling too well from her immunisations :( x

I think it's pretty unusual for CP to start on the limbs - my GP said the spots almost always start on the face or trunk.

Idratherhaveacupoftea · 21/06/2018 22:10

We've got scarlet fever doing the rounds in one of our local primary schools.

JustVent · 21/06/2018 22:14

Looks like hives to me.

LouiseEH · 21/06/2018 22:29

He has nursery tomorrow, should I keep him home just to be safe?

I don’t want to be one of “those parents” who sent their child to nursery/school with something contagious

Banananananananaaaa · 22/06/2018 06:46

Yes I think you need to keep him off. If it's CP he should be covered by now. If not maybe scarlet fever?

TheyCanGoInTheBucket · 22/06/2018 06:49

I would definitely keep him off. Even if it's not CP he's still got something that could easily spread.

redsky21 · 22/06/2018 06:51

Doesn't look like chicken pox to me.

leanne9312 · 24/06/2018 07:31

Looks like a heat rash or prickles to me , my l5 year old has them and they didn't start like this xx

Oysterbabe · 24/06/2018 07:34

Was it pox? My toddler had them 2 weeks ago and my 6 month old has them now. They started on their heads and they didn't really get any on their arms and legs. The spots turned to blisters very quickly.

PaddyF0dder · 24/06/2018 07:35

Normally starts on the trunk rather than limbs. So not entirely typical. If it IS the pox it’ll show itself quite soon.
