To go to minor injuries?

NoNarnas · 21/06/2018 19:51

Today at work at lunchtime I open a gate onto my foot, hurt at the time but I walked it off and it was a little sore. Continued walking on it all day with it just feeling a little bruised. However in the past half hour it has started throbbing and I now can’t weight bare at all!

I will feel very silly going to minor injuries when it can’t be broken as I wouldn’t have been able to walk all afternoon- however the pain is getting really unbearable and it hurts without me even moving it!

It’s a minor injury
Off you hobble x

thedevilinablackdress · 21/06/2018 19:55

You have an injury. Go to minor in injuries.

HeGotManFlu · 21/06/2018 19:55

You need to get it checked, it could be a fracture, it could be a massive bruise, don't walk or drive, get someone to take you. Keep us posted. Hope you're ok.

NoNarnas · 21/06/2018 19:58

No-one able to take me at the minute. DS is in bed and DH out for the evening. Even when he does get home it would involve waking DS and bringing him with us as we live rurally so no taxis and no family nearby!

I will take some painkillers and see how it goes, if it is still sore in the morning I can take DS on the bus. At least I know I am not being daft in going!

Hope you will be OK op.

But sorry, I am baffled at the number of posts asking whether it's OK to go the GP/minor injuries/A+E etc.

Everyone knows themselves when it gets to the stage where self care is not enough.

GO girl!

Bobbiepin · 21/06/2018 20:03

It's entirely possible you have a small fracture, or worse. Adrenaline and cortisol will stop you feeling the worst of the pain for a while but they will wear off after a few hours. FWIW I walked on a fractured metatarsal for a month. It hurt a lot and was a very small fracture which eventually healed with no lasting problems.

ScreamingValenta · 21/06/2018 20:03

It sounds like a minor injury, so that's the place to go if it's no better in the morning.

FadedRed · 21/06/2018 20:07

As well as pain media, you need to sit with your foot elevated and use an ice pack ( frozen peas/ice cubes well wrapped in a towel - no ice directly on the skin).

FadedRed · 21/06/2018 20:08

meds not media.

Antigonads · 21/06/2018 20:11

I shouldn't bother. Elevate and cold compress.

QuestionableMouse · 21/06/2018 20:13

It's bad advice to tell the op not to bother. They're worried enough to post here.

KneesupGaston · 21/06/2018 20:18

I have a minor injury. AIBU to go to minor injuries? Hmm

NoNarnas · 21/06/2018 20:47

Kneesup- I don’t like wasting healthcare practictioners time and always worry that there are other people more in need.

I’ve managed to crawl up to bed and have an ice pack on it so will see what it’s like in the morning.

I just don’t understand how it can go from being ok to really painful in the space of half an hour!

My old boyfriend (now ex) fell on his leg, mid way through a hike. Finished the walk (about another 3 miles). Drove home then said it really hurt. Went up to A&E (no minor injuries here) and x-Ray confirmed it was broken, this was about 6 hours after he fell!

I think if it’s that painful you should consider getting it checked out. Could you get a taxi there when your DH gets home?

Antigonads · 21/06/2018 20:54

Yeah right. Take advice off random off the internet

Karmin · 21/06/2018 21:01

Make sure you report it at work though

NoNarnas · 21/06/2018 21:02

Karmin I hadn’t thought of that thanks. I don’t work Fridays but will give them a ring tomorrow.

Given you could walk on it initially id say ice, elevation, compesssion, rest. I couldn't have walked on my broken ankle from when I broke it. I'd sleep on it elevated with the above and ibuprofen and if no joy tomorrow go to minor injuries!

HeGotManFlu · 21/06/2018 21:13

If you can't get to minor injuries tonight maybe you should at least call 111 for their advice. I personally wouldn't leave it till the morning.

FadedRed · 21/06/2018 22:01

IT is very possible to walk with a fracture of the ankle, I did. Don't believe the myth that 'if you can move it, it's not broken'. Some types of fractures can totally immobilise, others don't. You won't know without an X-Ray.

NoNarnas · 21/06/2018 22:03

Thanks Faded. It is the side of my foot rather than the ankle which is why I think it’s unlikely it’s broken. But I’ve never felt pain like it! I’m hoping it’s jist gone into some spasm and will right itself over night!

I'd go to minor injuries (if they x-ray) or A&E this evening. I received a nasty knock to my finger a month ago. It hurt quite a bit at the time but I didn't think it was broken (just badly bruised). Went about my business (work etc) as normal. 24hours later it was really swollen, I reluctantly went to A&E and turns out the joint was fractured and tendons torn. Ended up having to have surgery and I'm still in a cast!

NoNarnas · 21/06/2018 22:23

I’ve googled and I think it’s nerve entrapment caused by blunt trauma! The type of pain makes sense and it fits with the area I injured it. Fingers crossed it fixes itself soon!

NoNarnas · 22/06/2018 07:01

It’s so much better this morning! Still sore but the constant burning/throbbing has stopped and I can move around with it now.

Thank you everyone!

The sore spot on your foot probably made you walk a bit funny to avoid said spot without you realising. And that probably strained a muscle Smile
