Help me with recycling bin problem? Might have a CFer on my hands

Neighbour nearby had their recycle bin rejected a few months ago due to wood being in it. They demanded to use mine instead until they could go to the tip. I said no, as I usually fill the bin between collections (fortnightly). They never went to the tip and their recycle bin has been sat in their garden for months with the rejected sticker on it.

No problems for months, and today I’ve bought my green wheelie bin in and looked in the recycle bin to find it’s full to the top of wood, plastic and polystyrene. It’s going to get rejected when it’s collected tomorrow. Oddly enough had a nosey in neighbours recycling bin and it’s now empty so assume they’ve moved it from their bin to mine.

I’ve called my Housing Association about it but they’ve said it’s my bin so my problem. Neighbours are denying it’s their fault.

What can I do? I don’t drive so can’t take the stuff to the tip, and a LP with no spare cash to pay someone to do it*. I’ve been told by my HA to not “upset” the neighbour as they’re quite sensitive apparently.

Can’t switch the bins as they all have the numbers on them as the Housing Association owns all the local houses and puts the numbers on in white paint.

*I literally have no money at the end of the month after paying childcare and transport to work.

Put it back in their bin when they are out. Get a lock for your bin.

Lazypuppy · 21/06/2018 18:25

Just take all their stuff out and out it back in their bin. Do it at like midnight then they won't have time to swap it back.

Then buy a bin lock

PUGaLUGS · 21/06/2018 18:27

I would bloody well tip it all in their front garden when it’s dark.

HeGotManFlu · 21/06/2018 18:27

Do you have proof of who put all that in your bin. Hide it in a garage if you have one. You need to log a complaint with the council on their web page. C.F..

hidinginthenightgarden · 21/06/2018 18:27

put it back in their bin!!! CF!

Firstnameterms · 21/06/2018 18:28

ok if you really don’t want to cause upset why don’t you just black bag it and put it in the black bin?

HeGotManFlu · 21/06/2018 18:28

Can you empty the bin into black sacks and just dump it in the communal area and bring this up at any meetings you have.

Racecardriver · 21/06/2018 18:28

Just put it back in their bin and make a complaint about your Ha to your MP over the advice to just put up with it.

Littleredboat · 21/06/2018 18:29

I’d put it back on their drive at 2am and hide my bin so they couldn’t put it back in.
Then buy a bin lock.

FloweryTeapotCollection · 21/06/2018 18:30

Don't have a black or brown bin as I don't have a garden just a small bin store which is accessible from outside, it's all gone in the blue recycling bin.

HeGotManFlu · 21/06/2018 19:16

Is it in your blue bin, I would empty it and then get a binlock. Where does your household and general rubbish get put.

RibenaMonsoon · 21/06/2018 19:42

Another vote for putting it back in their bin. Next time you see them, casually drop in that you have a camera overlooking your frint garden. Watch them shit a brick!

PennyWistful · 21/06/2018 19:45

What do you do with general waste then?

Cheerbear23 · 21/06/2018 19:45

Yes to swapping to back. Don't let them use your bin like this CF's!

itswinetime · 21/06/2018 19:47

Put it back in their bin and when you can get A lock for yours stop them doing it again.

Cheby · 21/06/2018 19:53

I’d empty it out this evening, into a black bin bag. Then I’d set an alarm for 3am (or whenever is just before it gets light where you are), sneak out v quietly and put it in their bin. Then I’d be up from 6ish keeping an eye on my bin to make sure they don’t try and put it back.
I’d do it at 3am because they might still be up around midnight!

Helloflamingogo · 21/06/2018 19:58

I’d chuck it back in their bin too, I wouldn’t even have asked them tbh. And say it’s nothing to do with you when they kick up a stink.

ZenNudist · 21/06/2018 20:02

Just put it back and deny all knowledge. 2 can play at that game.

keyboardkate · 21/06/2018 20:06

Gravity Locks are the business. The bin stays locked until it is upended in the truck. (but you can of course unlock it to put your stuff in, in the meantime!) Google it.

Worth the investment. IMO. And the added bonus is the CF neighbours will be raging that they cannot access your bin!

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 21/06/2018 20:06

Surely you have general waste bins? Put it in theirs or yours; the council will collect it regardless.

I don't believe for a moment that the HA told you not to upset your neighbour, though, that's a load of tosh.

Iceweasel · 21/06/2018 20:08

Take it out and return it to them in a bin bag. I don't understand why they couldn't have just removed it from theirs though and put the bin out the next fortnight, why would they need to use yours. They would have space for more recycling if they removed the non recycling, what am I missing here?

lljkk · 21/06/2018 20:13

Wood: put it out on kerb with free sign for someone with woodburner to use
Rest in your regular rubbish bin... no?

kitkatsky · 21/06/2018 20:16

Can't be sure this is the same for all councils, but about 8 years ago we had drug dealers upstairs who filled my bin with dirty nappies, needles etc. I was pregnant at the time and told council they used needles so was worried about emptying and they said to leave it out on particular date and someone came round to empty it. Worth a try?

ISnappedAndFarted · 21/06/2018 20:27

Another vote for putting it in their bin.

Or just a bin bag, left conveniently outside their house.
And get a bin lock.
