Packed lunches reception year

If you send a packed lunch in to school with your child how do they store it? What if there is stuff that needs to be kept cold like a yoghurt? Hate the thought of my child eating a sweaty sandwich at lunch!

I feeeze him a frube yogurt. It keeps lunch cold and defrosts by lunch.

Sirzy · 21/06/2018 13:08

I used to just put little ice blocks in the lunch bag

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 21/06/2018 13:10

ALL reception to yr 2 children in England get free school meals if that helps

Otherwise insulated bag and a frozen frube or drink helps

KirstenRaymonde · 21/06/2018 13:10

They will store it in a box somewhere, not in a fridge. Get an insulated lunch bag and use little ice packs to keep it cool. It’ll be fine for 4 hours.

DaveyouareanuttertwatDave · 21/06/2018 13:11

Small ice pack in the lunchbox. Or I fill water bottle to half, put it in the freezer and top up with water in the morning.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 21/06/2018 13:12

Put an ice block in.

Takethemdown · 21/06/2018 13:12

Another one who puts frozen frubes in.
Honestly they sit in a hot stuffy classroom for four hours in our primary so definitely put that or an ice cube in.

mookinsx · 21/06/2018 13:14

I never had a frozen yogurt - my lunch bag was sometimes insulated depending on the one I took. Don't think I was packed yogurts until a bit older because I would probably have spilt it down me lol

hididdlyhoneighborino · 21/06/2018 13:16

I put a small cool block in ours and a frozen frube too.

Ours are just stored in the classroom.

PumpkinPie2016 · 21/06/2018 13:18

My son is in preschool and he takes packed lunches with an ice block.

Next year though he is in reception and will be taking advantage of the free meals - is this an option do your child?

firstworldproblems2018 · 21/06/2018 13:27

Definitely ice packs!

GrannyGrissle · 21/06/2018 14:24

Frozen Capri Sun does the trick.

ToastyFingers · 21/06/2018 14:38

I use one of those little ice packs too.

Notso · 21/06/2018 14:43

Lunch bags at my kids school go on trolleys in the classroom. I used to put ice packs in the bags but DC said it made condensation Confused so now I just put the drink in the fridge overnight.
I use those insulated bags which seem to keep cool.
They rarely have yogurts at school, because they usually have one at breakfast and they have to bring all rubbish home so emptying a yogurt covered sandwich box is a but grim.

arethereanyleftatall · 21/06/2018 14:58

It'll just be a box somewhere. So,I never include yoghurts or chicken or anything I'd prefer to stay in the fridge. Mind, my dc weren't allowed home pack lunch (my rules) when the government provide it free.

dementedpixie · 21/06/2018 15:02

I use ice packs and an insulated lunch bag

Frozen Frube here as well. But my infant age child has the free dinners.

Ubercornsdiscoball · 21/06/2018 15:08

Blimey! We just used to eat sandwiches that had been sitting in our lunch boxes for hours. I wouldn’t have considered anything different 😳

dingodollarman · 21/06/2018 15:42

I suppose a frontage frais or custard pot could be a bit warm but not very healthy every day

LegoLady95 · 21/06/2018 15:46

I use an insulated lunch bag, make it the night before and put the whole bag in the fridge so even the bag is chilled.

FrayedHem · 21/06/2018 15:49

My reception child takes a packed lunch and it's just stored in a box in the classroom. Even though he's on packed lunch, he gets offered the pudding from school dinners so I don't put yoghurt etc in as that's always on offer.

TheNoseyProject · 21/06/2018 15:49

Custard pots usually come from the non-chilled part of the supermarket so don’t need chilling at home. Send him with a jelly or fruit pot instead. It’s only 4 hours yogurt isn’t going to go off.
