I get my trains from a station where the trains are late regularly so I'm a bit used to this. My 6 am train was delayed and it said it was arriving at 6:36. Being pregnant and uncomfortable I went across the road to sit down and get a coffee out of the cold. I thought fair enough. Saw the train arrive and leave at 6:15, tried to run for it but just couldn't get there fast enough. Next one isn't until 7 and I am now missing my connection to London. London train is fully booked so won't be able to sit down for the 2 hour 34 minute journey and can't imagine anyone giving me their seat when they've booked the reservation and on such a long journey.

AIBU to even be slightly annoyed that they said the train would be here at 6:36 when it was actually only 10 minutes late and turned up at 6:15?

Sat here nearly in tears as it is one of those mornings and I'm going to be in so much trouble at work for being late to a meeting in London. Prepared to be told that this is all my fault.

No you are not AIBU, your train company is.

FabulouslyFab · 21/06/2018 06:40

You are definitely not being unreasonable! Sending hugs x

MindTheGap6 · 21/06/2018 06:44

I could cry. There aren't even any call centres open to call for help. They all open at 8. So annoyed Sad

Tell your boss asap so that they can contact the others due to attend due meeting. I wouldn't mention the coffee - just say that you sat down to rest your back.
It's been an unfortunate morning, but don't let them make you feel any worse as it wasn't really your fault. I wouldn't trust the estimated arrival times in future though.

Ledkr · 21/06/2018 06:45

Call in sick and have a day at home.

DearTeddyRobinson · 21/06/2018 06:47

There's a special place in hell for some of these train operating companies. Just go home and put your feet up OP, I'm sure the meeting will be rescheduled Thanks

NotTakenUsername · 21/06/2018 06:49

Yanbu. But you can’t change it now. You can complain later. For now you need to be proactive and communicate with your employer and or attendees of the meeting.

Then breathe! Once you get there you need to perform as well as possible so fretting about this won’t help.

NapQueen · 21/06/2018 06:50

Yeah id ring and say you werent able to make it in today 《insert vague pregnancy related symptoms》 and go home to bed.

Do you do this commute every day?

MindTheGap6 · 21/06/2018 06:53

Thanks all. nap I do, but the trains always come AFTER the time they are estimated not before. Never known one to be earlier than expected. I'll know now for future. It's more the expense to be honest of paying for a new ticket. It's going to cost a fortune and I can't claim the old one back as technically it now looks like I missed the train. So I've wasted £184.

keepingbees · 21/06/2018 06:53

Yanbu. I wouldn't get the next train if you know you'll end up standing for over 2 hours. Ring whoever you need to and explain/reschedule.

MindTheGap6 · 21/06/2018 06:55

keeping I'm on the next train. I just have no choice other than to try and get there and see if they will let me use these tickets. The person I'm meeting has travelled a fairly long way and London is a middle ground for us. If I cancel I'll look awful. I'm just going to have to pay for a new ticket aren't I. This is so shit.

NotTakenUsername · 21/06/2018 06:57

Did the 7o’clock come early too? It’s a bloody mess. Angry

MindTheGap6 · 21/06/2018 07:00

@NotTakenUsername when I said 7 I meant 6:55 (Sorry, easier to round!)

MindTheGap6 · 21/06/2018 07:02

Definitely not calling in sick! I won't get paid Confused

Emmageddon · 21/06/2018 07:03

Hopefully they'll let you use the ticket you have and some kind person will realise you're pregnant and let you sit down.

LoniceraJaponica · 21/06/2018 07:04

Is it Northern Rail? Their trains are all over the place today due to strike action. I hope you get it sorted.

MindTheGap6 · 21/06/2018 07:05

It's West Midlands. Nightmare.

All the threads about whether people should be able to sit because they are pregnant scare me a little bit to be honest! Grin but you're right, maybe someone will be kind enough to let me. For what it's worth I'm 5 months, have terrible SPD and am very uncomfortable.

massive usually I wouldn't but figured I'd be safe coming back at 6:20 and needed somewhere warm to sit. Can see how this is shit on my part though, work won't see it the way I do!

OP posts:
Weezol · 21/06/2018 07:13

If you see a member of staff, tell them you're pregnant (if it's not obvious) and struggling, there may well be an empty seat somewhere on the train.

MindTheGap6 · 21/06/2018 07:14

Is anyone else's train just consistently late or delayed? My trains were cancelled all day the other day and they put a bus service on instead. One bus service for a train full of people! That didn't work, of course. It's an absolute nightmare. I dread how delayed my train is going to be every day.

OP posts:
MindTheGap6 · 21/06/2018 07:18

@Weezol I'll definitely see if I can do that. At least on the tube people let you sit down without fail! In my experience anyway.

OP posts:
Angrybird345 · 21/06/2018 07:20

Didn’t you look at a train app? There are lots showing where the train is once it’s moving. You should have waited at the station as train companies are rubbish.

KathyBeale · 21/06/2018 07:24

When you get on the train, find a seat in first class. I think they let you stay there if you’re pregnant? You could ask someone at the station if you’re not sure.

MindTheGap6 · 21/06/2018 07:24

angry had no idea such a thing existed!
