to take DC to a minor injuries unit?

Long story short, DC had tendonitis in her hand a few years ago. It was drained and she had physio to help ease the muscle and tendon damage in the knuckle joints.

Recently it's been looking like its all coming back again. She should really have been to a doctor before now but what with exams etc i haven't forced it as she's not been in much pain - just a swollen hand (though she can still write with it) and difficulty bending knuckles too far.

She's woken up today and the joint between two fingers is numb and her hand hurts a lot. Cant get a GP appointment as its not an emergency so i googled walk in centres near me... (it cant possibly be an A&E matter) the nearest one is actually a minor injuries unit. I thought this sounded abut right but DH says it's for one off cuts, breaks, fractures etc - not something that will probably need actual diagnosis and treatment... AIBU to think its the right choice?

I think booking a routine appointment with the gp would be better

Ideally yes, but for some people that can take weeks.

To the OP - Personally, if there's numbness and a lot of pain I'd want it seen ASAP, it may or may not be tendonitis. Can you call NHS Direct (or whatever it's called now) and get some advice?

id go to the walk in, though they might send you to a&e depending on what equipment the have.

There's been a sudden and alarming change, so I'd go to minor injuries to make sure it's nothing immediately worrying to deal with. You can always book a future GP appointment as well, to deal with the longer-term problem.

Since its not an injury that's just happened you may get sent away anyway - if her hand is numb and pain increased then I would go to casualty (FUI- currently sitting at work in casualty so that's why I'm saying this!!)

Or phone doctor again, explain numbness, pain increased and if a phone call from doctor could help or what they suggest.

Good luck

I would call 111 and run through it with them. They can advise where would be best for her to be seen and can arrange for the GP to call you if necessary.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 20/06/2018 14:42

I would, particularly as you say you can't get a GP appointment. Good luck.

I've been to minor injuries for tonsillitis before when the doctors was full. I would take her
