OP have you seen Spiral? It was another BBC4 Saturday night serial. It's French cops though rather than Danish/Swedish. It's on Netflix /Amazon now - can't remember which. It's just brilliant, addictive, scary and funny and I love the French hero detective Laure just as much as Saga. Another excellent female lead character.

Salamander was quite good, Belgian series. Oh, and Les Revenants, the original French version is fabulous.
The OA on Netflix is strange but strangely brilliant!
The Crossing on Amazon Prime is okay.

Mookie81 · 19/06/2018 22:23

The Dark on Netflix. German subtitles, a bit time twisting and very good.

Hinterland is fab and we're big Arne Dahl fans here Smile Beck is a good 'un and we always enjoy a rewatch of Wallender (both Swedish and UK versions)

The Tunnel is worth a watch.

And binge on Luther if not watched already.

washewihersen · 19/06/2018 22:26

Also Top of the Lake. Loved that as well - 2 seasons.

Gretol · 19/06/2018 22:29

Haven't seen the new spiral but that's a good shout thanks!

Narcos on Netflix. Excellent.

How long before someone mentions The Wire?

(Not on Netflix though)

OhWotIsItThisTime · 19/06/2018 22:46

Legion - haven’t seen the second series, but the first was amazing.

Gretol · 19/06/2018 22:56

I tried the wire years ago. Only did the first few episodes. Dh hated it. I wouldn't mind watching again (perhaps with subtitles?!)

The Wire is a difficult one, I found it very compelling once I got into it, but it's not really like a typical drama... there's not really any great storyline.
It's almost a cross between fly on the wall and drama, but it's very good at blurring the boundaries between good cops and bad drug gang... there's a lot of personal lives in it that cross over into bad guys on the good side, and good guys on the bad side...

Stick with it.

bubbleroad · 20/06/2018 07:28

The Wire was great, but since each series had a different focus it was easier to like some more than others.

bubbleroad · 20/06/2018 07:28

And yes, some of the dialogue is tricky (but I find that very often the case now)!

imip · 20/06/2018 07:41

Yes to all the above - as i genre I’ve lived it all. My guilty pleasure is also Versailles. It’s killing me that I’m all caught up and can’t binge anymore (iplayer). If you can get Borgen, it’s awsome!

And for something completely different Arrested Developmemt on Netflix. Watching lots of European movies had really made me detest the slow pace of us programmes, and the never-ending series. But Arrested Development is hysterical!
