Getting a cleaner.....does she need insurance? Or do I? Or do both of us?

A friend of mine has expressed an interest in cleaning for us a couple of hours a week. We need it!
What’s the best way for us both to cover / protect our interests? (thinking in terms of breakages/ accidents etc - I trust her completely )
This is all new to me so thanks for any advice .

What risk are you looking to be covered?

Your home insurance will provide basic occupiers liability cover for visitors to your home - ie if a wall falls on top of them.

In my house, there is not much a cleaner could do wrong, but if you have expensive rugs or carpets that you don't want bleach marks on you might want to look at insurance.

If your friend is going to clean for anyone else she definitely needs insurance.

Does you house insurance cover this? I'd suggest asking the company if it does and what they recommend.
our cleaners work for a company so have insurance but are bloody expensive and yet worth every penny

Thanks topcat. We certainly don’t have anything expensive or valuable, I just want to do the right thing by us both.
John she is “just” doing this on her own , not as part of a company. Does that make her self em0loyed & us her employers - guess it does.

I don't have any special insurance, and nor does my cleaner (who is also my friend and self employed).
What exactly are you wanting to insure against ?

There is no need to have insurance just to 'be alive' - but it is about risk.

If your cleaner burns down your house, will your house insurance pay out? - or would they be looking to claim from your cleaner's (non existent) public liability insurance?

Policies are available for cleaners from relatively small amounts.

No, not necessarily. I wouldn't bother with insurance.

How likely is it that she will seriously damage your house through negligence?
